My latest reed and paper lantern, Signal Loss. This lantern is witness to decay in a natural system, exploring negative space and loneliness in a vast landscape. by @butterpoweredbike

Paper mache lantern made with paper, reed, and found wood based upon the form of a snail. I'm finding light sculptures to be the perfect marriage of that which is grounded and earthy with that which is glowing and whimsical. by @butterpoweredbike

Moth lantern made with tissue, string, and found natural materials. I've started letting the materials guide what I make. This piece of wood reminded me of a hand, so it made sense for it to be gently holding a delicate moth. by @butterpoweredbike

I started this one for an entirely different project. But then it was suddenly Halloween week and I already had a mask that could function as a costume in hand. So, this one will serve two purposes. I went as "drought," which is a super scary reality where I live. Sculpted from foam clay and a cereal box. The handle is a chopstick. by @butterpoweredbike

Some watercolor bee bookmarks for the little free library. Such a fun small way to share a little art. by @butterpoweredbike

Nothing better than doing a little plein air water color sketching of wildflowers in the mountains. It was very windy, though, so the paint was drying even faster than normal. by @butterpoweredbike

The first datura to bloom is an event around here. Nothing compares to the drama they bring as they suddenly pop open at dusk. by @butterpoweredbike

Loose watercolor bee painting. I've been looking back at the journey I've taken with painting over the last 2 yrs, and this small bee painting really drove home an important point I've learned in that time. Watercolor is so much about walking that fine line of control, and letting the paint and water do what they will. My most successful paintings are always the ones where I'm not fighting the medium, where the wildness of watercolor brings liveliness that no amount of fussing could ever match. by @butterpoweredbike

I delivered my watercolor vegetable bookmarks to the little free library today. I got the idea to share art at LFLs from @uma_sharda . There's a lovely garden-themed LFL at my community garden, so it seemed the perfect place to share some paintings. by @butterpoweredbike

I made some veggie-themed watercolor bookmarks to share with the Little Free Library at my community garden. I won't apologize for the bad vegetable puns. I don't carrot all! by @butterpoweredbike

I'm engaging in a different kind of gardening this week by making a collection of paper peonies in a range of blush pink and pale yellow tones. I'll admit that I'm having a ton of fun surrounding myself with beauty in this way. And I'm looking forward to this next lantern coming into being. by @butterpoweredbike

Here's a preview of the fantasy paper flowers that will be part of my next lantern. I want this lantern to be an ode to the lushness of early summer, when we're drunk with the joy of seeing flowers for the first time after a long winter. by @butterpoweredbike
