Happy Spaniel Sunday 🐾 your reminder that a dog is for life, they’re not an accessory or trend now you may think this is hypocritical coming from someone with a dog instagram and a spaniel, but I feel like this is a good conversation πŸ˜… The other day I saw a puppy on a walk, a fox red Labrador I feel like that’s important to raise because the fox red lab has definitely had a spike in popularity recently because they are a beautiful colour! Even though they look more of a red colour, they are still genetically a yellow lab. I do feel like the term fox red is used as a selling point, seeing a dog as more of an aesthetic rather than being a high energy gun dog breed. Don’t feel ashamed if you have one, calling your fox red lab a fox red lab doesn’t make you a bad person, that not what I saying 😌 In my area there are so many untrained dogs, I’m sure many other owners face this in England This puppy that I saw was NOT have any form of engagement or training at all. The owner had it wearing a very popular brand known for cute designs and literally only stared at her phone for the walk. and if you’ve followed me for a while, you know my thoughts on overconsumption especially with dog harnesses 🀫 She only paid attention to her puppy to untangle the lead she wasn’t paying attention to from getting tangled under her puppy… I guess it’s frustrating because I know on future walks this dog will be a β€œdon’t worry she’s friendly” dog, and I’m tired of it. I don’t want to have to constantly keep an eye out for other people’s dogs just because I’m taking care of my own. So, if you’re ever going to get a dog. Get a dog because you want a DOG. A dog breed that suits you; your routine, your house, your budget, your energy levels. It’s a shame that these dogs (mostly gundog breeds like the WL lab, Weimaraner, vizsla, cocker spaniel and poodle mixes) are becoming a trend because of their appearance πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ Now of course there’s nothing wrong with owning these breeds, it’s just that people do not give them the right fulfilment for their breed or respect other dog owners. Happy Safety Saturday ⛑️ Travelling safely with Button is a top priority, because a dog not secured properly goes against the highway code, puts their life in danger and any passengers life in danger as they can become a projectile. There’s also many risks out on dog walks, like cutting his paw on glass or getting caught on barbed wire, etc. @mountainpawsuk gifted us a dog first aid kit in our PATS gift bag and it goes perfectly for travelling! We have everything at home and done have to worry about packing it as it’s all in one place. It also fits perfectly on the side of our @mimsafeuk variocage πŸ’› @muddymat also very kindly gifted us a mat at the PATS show, it goes on top of an orthopaedic mattress so that Button travels comfortably and it’s a lot easier to take the muddy mat out than the whole mattress. We’ve had a muddy mat in our bathroom for over year and it’s the best mat we’ve ever owned, it easily absorbs a lot of water and mud whilst still maintaining its high quality after a wash! Many many thanks to all the brands mentioned, it really gives us peace of mind and I cannot recommend them enough! What’s your must-have item you take out on every dog walk? by @button.boops
