Raised between England and Ireland and now based in Sète, Amber is a former sommelier with a deep-rooted passion for wine. Her career spans importing, buying, and writing, shaped by years spent working in wineries and restaurants across Australia, Italy, France, Portugal, and the UK.

A strong advocate for organic and biodynamic viticulture, Amber has seen firsthand how small artisan producers preserve and promote culture and tradition. This project is the realisation of a long-held dream: to help more people experience wine - and the people who make it - with the same joy and depth she has.

Ayant grandi entre l’Angleterre et l’Irlande et vivant aujourd’hui à Sète, Amber est une ancienne sommelière diplômée du Guide Michelin et passionnée par le vin. Sa carrière, marquée par des années passées dans des domaines viticoles et des restaurants en Australie, en Italie, en France, au Portugal et au Royaume-Uni, englobe l’importation, l’achat et la rédaction.

Fervente défenseure de la viticulture biologique et biodynamique, Amber a pu constater comment les petits producteurs artisanaux préservent et promeuvent la culture et la tradition. Maurane a passé 10ans dans les plus grands restaurants londoniens, dont Trinity et Frenchie, où elle a découvert sa passion pour le vin en 2018. Elle a ensuite managé l’équipe de sommellerie ainsi que la liste des vins du restaurant Frenchie en 2020, avant de rentrer en France pendant la pandémie pour se rapprocher de sa terre natale, Sète.

A son retour, elle a rejoint @cavv.sete approfondissant son expertise des vins naturels de terroir. Animée par la gastronomie, les accords mets-vins et « tout ce qui touche à sa bouche », Maurane apporte une énergie débordante et une connaissance approfondie à Buvette Tours. Passionnée de danse, de street art et de voile, elle s’inspire de son approche créative pour élaborer des expériences épicuriennes inoubliables. 🍷

Born and raised in Sète, Maurane spent 10 years in London’s top restaurants, including Trinity and Frenchie, where she discovered her passion for wine in 2018. She went on to lead the wine program at Frenchie in 2020, before returning to France during the pandemic to explore the natural wine scene across Occitanie.

The world drinks about eight grapes. But really, there are thousands.

Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Chardonnay, Cabernet — the same lineup fills wine shop shelves and vineyard rows alike. Global trade has narrowed things down to a handful of varieties that grow well, ship well, sell well.
But dig a little, and almost every wine region on earth turns out to be home to a litany of exciting, delicious native grape varieties — vines that have grown in the same soil for centuries, adapting to the climate, the terroir, the food, the culture. Our corner of the south of France is no exception.

Join us over the next few weeks as we shine a light on some of our favourite local grape varieties, and the producers making great wines from them.

Le monde boit une huitaine de cépages. Mais, il en existe des milliers.

Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Chardonnay, Cabernet — on retrouve les mêmes cépages aussi bien sur les étals des cavistes que dans les rangs de vigne. Le commerce mondial a réduit le choix à une poignée de variétés qui poussent bien, s’exportent bien, se vendent bien.

Mais en creusant un peu, on découvre que presque chaque région viticole du monde abrite une multitude de cépages autochtones, aussi surprenants que délicieux — des vignes qui poussent dans la même terre depuis des siècles, façonnées par le climat, le terroir, la gastronomie, la culture locale. Notre coin du sud de la France ne fait pas exception.

Suivez-nous dans les semaines à venir pour découvrir certains de nos cépages locaux préférés, et les vignerons qui en tirent de très belles cuvées.

Better late than never… June was an amazing month 🫶

• We headed into Faugères, learning more about natural winemaking, abandoned vineyards + the art of hand bottling + corking. Thanks @aaronayscough for a very delicious 24 hours! 🌱
• We launched our monthly interview series “Les Figures Locales”, talking to local artisans + people doing great stuff in the world of art, culture, food + wine. Link in bio for our interview with Sophie @nouvellelibrairiesetoise 📚
• We had an amazing visit + tasting with Corinne @closgisone 🍷

A week ago today, @buvette.tours, Brit Pop and @jajafoodstudio got together to do a Franco-British wine + gelato party, marking 20 years of @worldwide_festival_sete

Amber and I met via mutual friend @lottiehampson. Just under two years ago, we both moved to France full-time and have gone on to start our own businesses, speaking regularly on the phone to navigate everything from new concepts to French bureaucracy.

With Amber based in Séte and working with winemakers across the region, and me often working to get the French drinking English wine, it felt like a no-brainer to join forces for Worldwide, which has always been a synthesis of British and French culture since starting in 2006.

With the other half of Buvette @mauuranee hosting us in @enface.laperledethau, and Laura bringing killer gelato (with croissant and marmite flavours battling it out), we sold out of everything within 3 hours of opening at 6, and then even got to spend a few hours on the dancefloor after.

Our theory was that the Worldwide crowd was the perfect one to try out the wines. My biggest takeaway by far from this event re: French audiences is that if you give the choice of English vs. French at the bar (instead of just having the English option), people want to try something new and will go for it (and be shocked to discover they’re into them.)

Thanks to all winemakers who took part and thank you to everyone who came along!

What a bloody pop-up! 🇫🇷🇬🇧❤️

Thank you to @buvette.tours for inviting me to create two gelato recipes to celebrate the friendly rivalry between France and the UK. It was so much fun developing and testing my Croissant and Marmite gelatos, and I was so happy to see how well they were received.

Okay, the croissant sold out first… but let’s be fair, we were on croissant territory!

I’m especially happy that I managed to convert a few Marmite haters to my version. And one of the highlights of the day? Being nicknamed “the lady who makes weird ice creams” by one of the kids (Nina 🫶). I’ll happily take that title.
