Wonder why we call ourselves the buzzed queens apiary? Well, it's because when we harvest our honey, we the soak the honey filled waxed cappings in alcohol. This makes a delicious honey simple syrup (we have vodka, tequila, and mezcal). All amazing in cocktails🍹After soaking and shaking the bottles for a week, we strain the liquid out, and our wax is honey free and ready to be rendered and repurposed. by @buzzedqueensapiary

It's not just butterflies that like milkweed. Bees even like it, too! This is pineleaf milkweed or Asclepias linaria it is also native to the Sonoran Desert. Every pollinator lover should have this in their garden! by @buzzedqueensapiary

This is a picture of drone brood. These are the only males in the hive. A drones' only purpose is to mate with a virgin queen. by @buzzedqueensapiary

The girls have been busy! Lots of capped honey this time of year as we are in our nectar flow. The other 2 pictures are of honey the girls are still working on. They will fan the honey with their wings to dehydrate it and remove the excess moisture. Once that process is complete, they will cap it with wax. Harvesting honey too soon can cause it to spoil, so it's important to harvest it after the bees have capped it. by @buzzedqueensapiary

It's honey bee swarm season! In the first pic, you can see the forming of new queen cups. This is one of a beekeepers 1st indications that a hive wants to swarm. The hive needs more space. Our solution was to add another deep with 8 empty drawn frames. We then pulled some of the full broad frame up so we could checkerboard them with empty frames below. This gives the queen the space she needs to lay eggs and more room for the bees to collet the abundant pollen and nectar that is blooming. See if you can spot the queen in the second picture. taken in Oro Valley, Arizona by @buzzedqueensapiary

Cute bees foraging on purple poppies. Poppies are considered an excellent pollen source and their open petals invite bees to come dance in their stamens to collect pollen. by @buzzedqueensapiary
