The building and lead up to opening a new restaurant is not easily described to folks that have not participated. The closest thing I can compare it to is a team that understands before a season begins, their potential. From there it takes a whole hell of a lot of work that no one sees. There are people behind the scenes that never get credit for the work they do. It takes a group of people staying on the same page the whole way through the lead up. I always learned that wrestling matches were won in the practice room and restaurants are no different. It’s all in the preparation and at the end of the day it’s much more mental than physical. Most construction projects are the thing. That’s the project. In restaurants we have to do construction just to get to the final project. I don’t think a restaurant is ever really “done”. It’s a living breathing organism that continues to evolve with the right people involved. I have opened a lot of restaurants at this point in my life and @queenbsushi will go down as one of my favorite project’s. Because of the people. Hats off to the new team that came together so quickly, especially @tchihirok and @sheridanchase but mostly to @iamthebriefcase and @licoricelust for having the dream!! It’s hard for me as a chef and a forager to watch others use ingredients I have harvested. My connection has historically been, I find it, I cook it. As I have grown older and life does not put me in a kitchen all day everyday, it has grown heartwarming to watch the crew @merkinvineyards absorb and learn about wild foods these last few years. @brylcreemrebellion did the lobster mushrooms some serious justice today. Some kind of little lobster mushroom cake, chorizo aioli, local corn relish, watercress from the greenhouse. It’s been a long journey on the hilltop. Nice to see it hitting its stride with the right guidance and leadership. I’m not much of a doter but I suppose they deserve a little love. taken in Cottonwood, Arizona by @bvibber

Pulling the first of the saguaro fruit. The season is hitting a little later than usual but the fruits are looking nice. It was my first trip into the desert without Carlos in 10 years and just so happened we were harvesting around the corner from our old house. I really miss my friend but was happy to have the camaraderie and conversation with @mikedechter and @freedomtudo. Another season turns and so do we. Happy hunting. by @bvibber

11 years ago I asked my friend to crossbreed her Catahoula with her Blue Heeler. She said yes if I would buy the litter. 6-8 pups was a lot. I couldn’t find buyers. A rancher would never buy a crossbreed.

Fortunately for me a happy little mistake occurred and I got the pup that I needed. I’ll never forget driving down to Sonoita to pick you up. Twas a long drive. You got your name on the way home.

I moved home 12 years ago on a mission. Define what should be Arizona Cuisine. Pre colonization. I needed a pup that would help with all those things. Protect livestock, watch my back while I forage, watch over the family. The things you really need a dog for.

Enter Carlos. The best dog I’ve ever had. You came to me when I needed you most. You were a part of everything that has happened.

Years ago when you were a pup we figured out a kennel was for dogs that stayed home. You stayed with me. The truck became ours. Fishing, hunting, hiking, foraging. The world was ours.

Without you none of this would have happened.

I’m sorry we didn’t have more time. 20 years would have not been enough. 9 years certainly was not.

I will miss you each day. You were a bright spot in the world that continues to grow darker. The truck feels empty, so do I. I love you so much more than you will ever know.

You died a warrior’s death. Fighting to the end. I will forever be grateful for the extra time we had.

Go see your girl. We know it’s why you waited. I’ll see you again someday. That’s where I want to be. by @bvibber

13 years of cuddles and kisses will never feel like enough my sweet girl 🐶🌈

Someday I will see you again and you’ll jump into my arms like you did when you were just a puppy. But until then, I hope you are smelling all the flowers and chasing all the butterflies and enjoying your time with Gus and Jose. They’ll look after you while you wait for me. I miss you more than words can say, pretty girl.

Had a wonderful little mom and dad getaway to L.A. for my birthday! Got to see @puscifer at @greek_theatre with some VIP tickets! It was definitely a cool experience and a super fun time! 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼

We missed Harper and we are so proud of how brave she was overnight without us for the first time, but we got some much needed alone time. Thank you, @bvibber! Can’t wait for our next adventure! ❤️ taken in The Redwood Deck At the Greek by @bvibber
