Our London studio came together with clients, collaborators, partners and members of our New York, Brisbane and Sydney studios to celebrate our centenary — the latest in a series of BVN100 festivities happening around the world.

The celebration took place at the Barbican Conservatory Terrace. London Principal Matthew Blair and Strategy Director Esme Banks Marr welcomed guests and international alums, reflecting on the people, projects and ideas that have shaped a century of practice, and looking ahead to the next.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to raise a glass (or two). As our centenary celebrations continue, we look forward to more conversations and events across the UK over the coming months.

Modernism arrived in Brisbane in the late 1950s as music, cinema and television were transmitting American suburban ideals and people were seeking exciting places to drive their new cars. Inspired by first-hand international experiences, BVN (then Bligh Jessup and Partners) adapted the philosophy to Brisbane’s subtropical climate and helped usher a new era of recreation.

Inala Sports Centre’s emblematic screen performed the role of Queensland breeze blocks, while the Amoco service stations’ pioneering, endlessly repeatable canopy was an obvious solution to extreme weather conditions. Camden Home Units remains a modernist landmark by the river in Hamilton, a reminder of the importance of reflecting the local context even when responding to profound social and technological change.

BVN is looking for an experienced graphic designer to join our Brand & Communications team. With a century of people, project and practice stories to tell, we need more hands to craft them.

Based in Sydney or Brisbane, you’ll work across presentations, publications, brand, exhibitions and social media for all five of our global studios.

A natural visual storyteller, you’ll bring craft, curiosity and good judgement. You’re motivated by new tools and mediums of visual storytelling – motion, dynamic typography, automation and creative AI – and recognise that one deeply considered proposition is far more efficient than 100 generated at pace.

Interested in joining our collective of more than 300 architects, designers, researchers and strategists designing a better future?

Apply now. Link in bio or story.

Throughout our 100-year history, we’ve been exploring new ways to imagine and build. We know acts of design are inextricable from their methods of construction.

Recently, projects like Quay Quarter Tower, Sirius Redevelopment and Greenland Centre have tested new ways to adapt existing structures to reduce carbon, minimise construction waste and retain the built heritage of our cities. New buildings like Sydney Fish Market and Atlassian Central engage new digital technologies, systemised construction and low-carbon materials to contribute to a more resilient and sustainable future.

The Sydney Fish Market has been shortlisted for the 2026 FRAME Awards in the Multi-Brand Store category.

Industry, daily life and tourism come together beneath the 200-metre-long undulating roof canopy - a feat of architecture, engineering and marine construction. Live fish auctions and bustling seafood deliveries form a backdrop to restaurants, cafés and specialty vendors right on the edge of Blackwattle Bay.

The awards will be announced on 22 October during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven, Netherlands.

The Sydney Fish Market is designed by @3xnarchitects in association with @bvnarchitecture and @aspectstudios

Generations of BVNers, collaborators and clients gathered at events in Brisbane and Sydney to celebrate a century of architecture in Australia and around the world.

With former principals, past leaders and alums in attendance, the events honoured the talent, dedication and vision of those who have contributed to the BVN story since Arthur Bligh opened his practice in Toowoomba, Queensland in 1926.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the State Library of Queensland and the Sydney Town Hall. The party isn’t quite over, with a London event still to come and the BVN100.com digital world a dynamic repository of a century of our people, culture and architecture.

It’s official. We’re 100!

We are the sum of our stories, ideas and aspirations over 100 years of architectural practice in Australia and around the world.

To bring gravitas to our centenary, we are celebrating the people, projects and pivotal moments that have defined us through an exciting new digital archive and a special publication with Uro.

BVN100.com is a landscape of artefacts, stories and timelines tracing a century of our people,
culture and architecture. Paired with each design artefact is a story of influence and belonging rooted in our history.

Published by Uro Publications, BVN, Becoming: Stories of Time and Place reveals architecture as it is lived. A reflection on selected BVN works, it is a book about people, place and the slow accumulation of belonging.
