Year 8 in the books. One of the things I love the most about teaching is the way that each of my bands creates a culture out of thin air each year. The jokes, the successes, the failures. We become a community over the course of a year, and then it just ends. We work really hard to make the band room a safe place for everyone, and I think it’s one of the things we’re best at. Kids love to be in here. So when they’re not, it feels very weird. It always leaves me a bit unmoored going into summer. As hard as this job is, and as tired as I am, I feel privileged to be a part of my band communities here, and I look forward to continuing the journey next year. #band #whs #lastoneout by @bwadeharder

My dad’s been gone 14 years today. The nature of grief - and the nature of life - seems that I don’t hurt quite as keenly, or as often any more. But on days like today, it feels as painful as ever. I wish he could have met his precious grandkids, or seen me get married, or come to watch me play jazz in Florida, or watched my band take the field in competition. I know that he lives on, ‘his blood runs in your veins’ a wise man once said to me. I am who I am today in large part due to his example. Cherish your loved ones today. by @bwadeharder

This is one of the purest expressions of love I’ve heard in years. @philcookmusic has been an inspirational figure in my life for a long time, and this album is another affirmation of that idea. Do yourself a favor and go listen to it. by @bwadeharder
