POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I present to you all my recent art installation “Recuerditos de un hogar”

It took me a while to post this but honestly couldn’t be prouder of myself and all the hard work I put into my first Art Residency “Thirdspace: Staging the Unseen” at OCAD University in Toronto.

“Recuerditos de un hogar” is a three handmade object installation representing latin objects that potentially remind latinos of their home. Each object has an embedded story about immigrants’ experiences and the emotional burden they go through. All the texts/poems were also written by me and they can only be seen when the UV lights turn on. This to represent the hidden thoughts and actual stories behind immigrants. Also, one important part of the installation is the final quote: “AND THEY DARE TO CALL US ALIENS?”, I wanted to include it because I find it so repulsive how after all the strain immigrants go through, there are people that STILL dare to refer to them as aliens.
~
When I first came up with this project, I knew I wanted to explore with as many material as possible, therefore I made each object from scratch. I worked with wood, weaving, painting and other tools too (that I had never worked with before). This project not only represented a huge growth within my work and my capacities but also the deep meaning of sharing my community with other cultures.

As for the Residency, I met so so wonderful artists and people that taught me a lot too, and will be forever grateful for meeting them and their art! Thank you @_near_far_ @merdetasdelen @shawnvieron for this opportunity!
