Most founders don’t fail because they’re incapable. They fail because they learn the most important business lessons too late.

After 8 years in business and marketing, I’ve realised that some of the most valuable lessons aren’t taught in business school or startup playbooks. They’re learned through expensive mistakes, difficult conversations, and trial and error.

One bonus lesson:

Most founders don’t have a marketing problem. They have a positioning problem.

If people can’t quickly understand who your product is for, what problem it solves, and why it’s different, even the best marketing campaigns will struggle.

The most expensive thing your startup can do?

Learn the same lesson twice.

I was on a close-out call with a client recently after building out their go-to-market tech stack, and we got to reflecting on what worked, what didn’t, and what they’d want to do differently going forward.

Here’s what stood out to me:

At every stage of building a startup, you’re learning something new.

But without the right systems to capture those learnings, your team ends up making decisions from memory, repeating experiments, and spending money to rediscover things you already knew.

The goal isn’t just to run campaigns, launch products, or acquire customers.

It’s to make sure every project leaves the business smarter than it found it.

That’s what good systems actually do.

“Distributing a bad product to highly anticipating waitlist is worse than building perfect product that don’t have any wait list or pre-release hype because when those customers realize the wait wasn’t worth you lost lifetime value and trust that might be impossible to build back but with a good product just one partnership or pitch to just one giant in the sector, you’ll be flooded with distributions and buyers, thank you”

I saw this comment under a video I posted earlier and I can’t stop thinking about it☺️. Thank you @captain_koroyi for sharing this!

We often talk about “don’t wait for perfection before you launch.”

While it is true that you shouldn’t spend forever tweaking a product until it never sees the light of day, there’s also a big difference between “not perfect” and “not ready.”

Launching early doesn’t mean giving people something half-baked and hoping they understand.

If people have joined your waitlist, followed your journey, or are genuinely excited about what you’re building, that excitement is trust. And trust is hard to rebuild once you lose it.

You don’t need a flawless product on day one. However, you need something that actually works, something you’re proud to put in people’s hands.

Done doesn’t always have to mean perfect. It means ready enough to serve the people who believed in you❤️

What shocked me most is how different motherhood feels the second time around.

With my first baby, the chaos felt loud.
With my second, I started learning the rhythm of it.

Not because it became easy, it definitely did not 😅 but because I stopped fighting the chaos so much and started repurposing it instead.

I’ve become quicker at adapting.
Better at prioritising.
Less obsessed with perfection.
More aware that sometimes “done” is enough.
More intentional with time because free time barely exists anymore.

Motherhood has stretched me in ways no job ever has.

And honestly? I think a lot of mums underestimate the actual skill set they’re building every single day:
operations manager,
project manager,
negotiator,
schedule coordinator,
emotional support human,
problem solver,
professional finder-of-missing-things 😭

So if you’re also in your “serial mum” era trying to build a life, a career, a business, or simply survive the day…
I hope you give yourself more credit.

For a while now, I have been struggling with my focus even with my notifications muted all day. At first it made sense, because I just had a baby, but not until I saw a particular creator share that she stays productive by locking her phone off.
So I tried it and it worked! It’s been 2 weeks since doing so and I don’t think I’d come back from that.
