Hi, I'm Candi! A New York girl who reads a lot, loves beautiful things, and has an opinion about almost everything.

I started The Kendall Edit because I wanted a place to talk about the things I genuinely enjoy, especially books, beauty, and all the little things in between.

I'm also here to meet new people who share some of those interests. So if any of that sounds like you, take a look around. Maybe we'll have something to talk about. ❤️ by @bycandikendall

I love a friends-to-lovers romance, and add in a man who speaks French, cooks, and yearns for the woman he loves? I'm invested.

It also helps that his yearning doesn't quite match how he presents himself to the world. Dillion had me in love!

He's not perfect, but I don't need my fictional men to be.

Baby, if it were me, there would be no story. I would've walked off into the sunset with Dillion in chapter one.

What happens when you do everything right and life still doesn't reward you?

Min Jin Lee's American Hagwon explores family, sacrifice, and the promise of upward mobility. I'm particularly interested in how she examines the expectations parents place on their children and the cost of pursuing a better life.

After Pachinko, I'm looking forward to seeing what she does with this story. @lee_minjin

Today was beautiful. Got my walk in, admired the flowers, and let my mind wander. Somewhere along the way, I started thinking about my next piece. Will it be an essay about a book or a work of fiction?

In Beloved, Toni Morrison makes us confront the unimaginable choices slavery forced upon mothers. I cannot condemn Sethe for believing death was kinder than enslavement. The only person entitled to that anger is the child whose life she took. by @bycandikendall

Good taste and questionable self-control. A dangerous combination.

My October Book of the Month picks. Got my hands on Beloved before it sold out, too. 💋

I haven't started this yet because everything I've heard makes it sound depressing as hell. 😭 Is it really that sad? Because I'm scared to even open it. by @bycandikendall

I found myself rereading Saving Sunflower, and I love the connection between Dominic and Claudette.

Dominic has been a provider since he was a preteen. Taking care of his family is all he knows, and so much of his worth is tied to putting his life and freedom on the line to keep the people he loves alive.

Clo, on the other hand, has always been the light in her family’s life, and she brings that same light to Dominic. She gives him permission to imagine a life beyond survival.

Their story may be exceptional, but Rae never makes it feel unbelievable. Such a BEAUTIFUL novel. by @bycandikendall

I know some people didn’t like Logan in Bunny by Rae Lyse, BUT… BABY, she was my kind of girl.

Out of all the FMCs in *The Sun Series*, she was the only one who was not green. Logan understood the rules of her world and knew when to move differently when those rules no longer served her. Damn, let a woman participate in men’s sports. 😂

You may not have liked how she handled Dezzy, but she had to deal with A LOT. Y’all judge FMCs so hard while giving MMCs all the grace.

It reminds me of how y’all do Zoya when Quasim was acting emotionally constipated. Meanwhile, I wanted to tell Blair to STAND UP all the damn time! by @bycandikendall

Dre in @raelysebooks Thirty is so persuasive, so good at reading people, that he can guide them into doing what he wants without ever making them feel controlled.

His power isn't that he forces people. It's that he understands them well enough to make them want to follow his lead.

The king finesser.

Check out my piece on The Kendall Edit, my blog, where I breakdown how Dre does it, what I think motivates him, and why people are willing to fall in line. by @bycandikendall
