POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
A long overdue Recollection post to commemorate leaving ANU.

One more thank you to John and Raquel and everyone else who helped make this work what it was, and to @megaloprintstudio for my artist residency and supporting the continuation of my practice.

The process of this work was super personal, not only drawing on photos from across my life, but tapping into the floaty matter of my brain to reconstruct the everyday and significant experiences that have shaped me.

The hard work and studio crying was worth it. (I think)

There’s so much more I could say about last year and this work, but I don’t think anyone actually reads my captions so I’ll leave it at that.

I can finally share that I’ve been selected as a finalist in the 2026 Brett Whitely traveling art scholarship!

My work “Recollection” will be on display at Brett Whitely studios alongside 11 other worlds from some amazing young artists.

I’m very excited, go see the exhibition - open till 22 November.

I forgot to some actual work from my time at the Megalo studios before going away… here you go :)

I made some books and was playing with layering and colour and things, I clearly like that tree a bit too much though.

So so excited to finish off some of these ideas at home and go back to Megalo soon- Banning myself from doing 100 small works though, must do something large scale and decisive.

First thing I did in Florence besides eating the best panini of my life was sitting for about 2 hours with David. I didn’t intend on sketching this but I immensely enjoyed myself.

Wasn’t going to post this because it’s a bit wanky and my perfectionism is brutal but I’m proud of myself for sitting still for so long so here we are by @bycharleyb

One outcome from Megalo was printing one of my first collages and colouring underneath each layer. Was kind of a last minute print so I’m keen to play around more

Meet Charley 🎨✨

Soon to graduate with a Flexible Double Degree in Visual Arts & Design.

For Charley, creativity lives in the light-filled studios of ANU, where instinct and spontaneity guide her practice.

“Most of the time it’s very messy… but having my own space to play in makes the creative process so enjoyable.”

Alongside her studies, she works as a junior designer and at the National Gallery of Australia, mixing collage, painting, print and archival imagery to explore memory, perspective and lived experience.

As graduation approaches, her advice to future students is simple:

“The bare minimum will only get you so far, so make connections with your tutors, go to campus events and soak in as much as you possibly can – your future self will thank you."

TLDR: residency recap, I love Megalo and layering

For 3 weeks in March Megalo generously hosted me at Cargills cottage where I spent lots of time walking, drawing and making some (heaps and heaps) of tiny prints.

These are just some process / Cargills photos- print outcomes to be posted but I mostly played with different colour & imagery combinations, also exploring book binding and using translucent paper as a different layering method.

I also met @oriettes__jockstrap and @bicy999 who were the best studio/housemates to have. Their talent and experience made the creative process look so easy, so look at both of their work and also go to Megalo because they have exhibitions and classes and cool staff and I love it there. by @bycharleyb
