If we haven’t crossed paths in a while- hey, I’m Joy. Philly based. Chef by training, educator by calling, advocate by choice.Showing up consistently online? That part’s been a journey.Mostly because I’ve been busy doing literally everything else but clearing out my camera roll. Still, I’ve got a lot to share and a lot of it has been happening outside.Like outside. Events, block restaurants, community spaces wherever there’s something good happening, I usually end up there.Sometimes I’m dancing, sometimes I’m serving, sometimes I’m just out there minding my business unless someone needs help, and then I’m minding theirs too. On purpose.If you’ve been around for a while, you know the journey:I started in kitchens, moved to classrooms, and now I’m out here building real bridges between food, education, and access.So here’s what I’m showing up to share:✅ Free & low cost Philly resources✅ Real-life glimpses (no fluff, no filters)✅ A little healing✅ And yes, always foodI don’t have it all figured out. But I’ve decided that doesn’t need to be a requirement to start showing up.Thanks for rocking with me this far. Here’s some tips to navigate your next visit to the @seamarket_fdrpark 1️⃣ Go Early. 2️⃣ Bring cash!3️⃣ Bring a blanket!Also if your anything like me bring your appetite and a tote bag. 4️⃣ Most importantly TIP THE VENDORS!!! (Setting up takes a lot of time and energy, especially during hotter months) At the @seamarket_fdrpark you can enjoy many nativedishes, culturally specific produce, plants, clothes, and jewelry. This beautiful community of refugees and immigrants have called FDR Park home since the 1980’s. For 35+ years @seamarket_fdrpark has cultivated an open community space all their own, providing acultural hub for food and fellowship. Honoring the ancestors. No fancy edits, just real food.Not too much on the sandals, they’re for historical purposes. Work + Life = ⚖️A little work, a little life, a lot of balance lately.Here’s a quick look at what I’ve been up to:• Spoke at City Council about fair housing + renter protections in Philly• Joined the Economy League’s Fair Housing cohort• Ate well (because of course I did)• Checked out opening night at Philly’s new F1-inspired arcade lounge• Caught a rooftop view while on the clock—worth pausing for• Watched a drumline at the Pride block party—pure joy, 100% for the kidsLately I’ve been leaning into spaces like City Council and Town Halls not just to advocate for what matters to me as a resident, but to stretch professionally. 30 Something 🍾There’s something special about sharing a birthday with your only daughter. As someone who doesn’t typically celebrate birthdays now I always have a reason to celebrate 1/13. Grateful for another year, my baby girl, this glow. I look forward to another year of drinking my water and minding my business. by @bychefjoy

Low key yet present Life lately seems to be all about focusing on the little things in front of me. The less I do the more fulfilled I am and it’s simply because when you separate yourself from work related things you’re able to see who you are. when I was a child, my hobby was to cook so it became my profession, and I didn’t realize that once it became my profession, I didn’t have a hobby or a life outside of that. So cheers to being present for the little things, new adventures, and blocked contacts. by @bychefjoy
