Here is what early readers have said:

On Leo, the protagonist:
"Brilliant, lonely, unstoppable Leo."
Bailey, Early Reader

"There was always another question waiting around the corner."
Aster Saunders, Writer

"There were points where my heart was thumping in my chest."
Rachel, Early Reader

Which line lands hardest for you?

For the readers who pick a book for the atmosphere and its characters as much as the plot.

Antarctica is not a backdrop in this one. It is a presence, and it has been waiting a very long time. Early readers keep calling The Last Latitude unlike any thriller they have read.

"This fell as snow a thousand years ago. Before the Treaty. Before Highjump. Before a single human being had ever seen this continent. I'm touching it. I'm touching a thousand years with my hand."
Priya, Chapter Seven

QOTD: What is the coldest a book has ever made you feel?

POV: your hyperfixation buys a plane ticket.

Leo spent six years staring at the same twelve pixels on the Ross Ice Shelf. Twelve pixels that flickered like a coordinate that couldn't decide where on Earth it was. So he won a research grant, packed a folder named for his mother, and flew to the bottom of the world to look at them himself.

"I look at maps. It's a thing I do."

What's the most unhinged thing your special interest has ever made you do?

The Last Latitude
By Cole Winters
YES!!! 🙌 (Out Now)

Let me start off by saying this isn’t my usual read. Which is what intrigued me when I read the synopsis (shared in second slide). The book is mostly of a deep-Rooted connection between a MC Leo and his mother, whom he lost at 13. Fast forward he’s 19 and he missions off to where he believes her life ended. He not only learns more of her he gains friendships with some amazing other characters in the book. It’s mysterious, and you can tell based on well-Done research by the author. As a mother there were parts that were emotional for me. I really empathized with the choices mothers face. Ill say I want more. I am feeling and hoping for a part 2. I also really enjoyed the drawings that helped me visuals some parts. The writing is also very well done and not rushed. I feel the author put his heart and soul into his work and it shows all throughout.

So honored to read this book. It’s out now and I’ll be keeping my eyeballs peeled for another if there is one. Thank you to Cole Winters for thinking of me with an advance reader’s copy. We had a bit of our own journey in me getting it from his land to mine. ***Giggles***

Definitely recommend especially if these tropes pull you in:
Obsessive investigator
Dead Parent Catalyst
Ragtag Team
Ancient history/Ice (Antarctica)
Isolated setting
A grand conspiracy

POV: your office suggestion box is at the bottom of the world.

This is the Wall of Terrible Ideas at McMurdo Station, Antarctica, from Chapter 2. Three decades of rejected proposals from people slowly losing their minds in the dark. Therapy llamas, banned talent shows, and nine straight months of begging for a cat.

Now tell me the worst idea anyone has ever pitched at YOUR workplace. I need to hear it.

Twelve pixels. That's where it starts.

Leo builds software that spots altered satellite images. For six years, it has flagged the same twelve pixels over the Ross Ice Shelf. They flicker. They never move. No one can explain them.

So life takes him south to measure them himself.

Some questions don't let you walk away.

Darius's nana had a rule for everything.

"Learn the difference between impossible and inconvenient, Darius. Most of what people call the first is the second wearing a bigger coat."

It's the line readers keep quoting back to me. More than one has told me they talked it through with their kids. I did the same with my 7-year-old.

Question of the day: what's a line from a book you read recently that you can't shake?

– Donna Morfett, author

"Every time a question was answered another one presented itself to keep me reading."

Some books tell you immediately what kind of journey you're in for. Others ask for a little patience before showing their hand.

I'm curious where that line is for different readers.

Do you know within a chapter, give it fifty pages, or refuse to decide until much later?
