The most fun I've had creating in a long time!

Self drafted this 2023 take of the Britney denim dress for a 2000s party and challenged myself with not only a new style but also using repurposed denim from thrifted jeans.

Most challenging:
- piecing together mismatched denim in odd shapes
- punching holes through multiple layers of denim/lining/interfacing for grommets
- vacuuming up all the denim off the carpet

Most enjoyable:
- learning to pattern make a fitted style
- all the 2000s nostalgia that came with researching the look
- many rows of satisfying topstitch

A fun way for me to visualise all the projects I have saved up to do, since I'm a visual worker. I started this in Photoshop then realised it took way too long to painstakingly cut out the technical sketches of each pattern and then organise all my inspo for each. Instead I just picked one image for each pattern and threw them together in Miro.

I can then prioritise which ones I want to work on first 🤓

Started this @lydianaomistudio #dreamfrock more than a year ago and finished it a few months ago.

I get so distracted by new patterns that I have at least 5 unfinished projects at any time, but hey, ✨variety✨.

Sewed this one up in a second hand kids bedsheet with a cute vintage graphic, found in an op shop somewhere down the NSW coast (used as a background in last pic). Pretty sure there was a pee stain on there which I had to skillfully avoid 😂 Only mod was lengthening bodice by 2 inches.

The many hours of festival fit shopping I've done in my life has led to this point. The realisation that I could maybe make my own (with some planning). Swipe to see construction process.

For my top I copied the shape of a bikini I owned and lined it with a thin black spandex so I could add removable inserts for structure. Then I sewed one triangle point from each cup onto a central metal ring. Strips were cut to make bias binding that were then extended into wrap around straps.

For the skirt I copied one I had already, with two front and back waist darts. Only difference was making the leg slit higher 👀

Realisations:
- spandex stretches enough to not need a zipper closure (!!)
- no edges needed to be finished (!!!)
- dance fabric comes in the best colours/prints
- spandex is amazing and more things should be made from it

Honestly if you'd told me when I sewed my first scrunchie in lockdown in 2020, that I would end 2022 in the Venn diagram of my hobbies that is festivals and sewing, I wouldn't have believed you.

What better way to go to my first camping festival than to make everyone matching outfits 😂

For the boys I copied a basic men's size medium tank top and sewed the front and backs together. For the gals I copied an existing festival wrap top I had, making the triangle bigger for extra coverage. All were made from dance spandex from @theremnantwarehouse which meant super stretchy, comfy and no need to finish edges!!

I audibly gasped when I saw these stunning vintage Italian silks at @drapersfabrics in Melbourne. Literally look at them, I wanted to take 5m of each.

Not only were they super cute but everything in the store was super well priced. Definitely recommend hitting them up if you're fabric shopping around Fitzroy!

Since everyone is in Europe right now, the next best thing is to make myself a holiday outfit and pretend I'm there too 🥲☀️
