EARTH TO SKY

A surrealist short by @teppnox

Stills from the second portion of our shoot - big thanks to John Whitfield for letting us use his studio. On our recce, I had come in with an idea of how I wanted things to look, but being there completely changed my approach. Whilst we were there, the sun had come in through a small window, and it transformed the place entirely. I knew I had to replicate this look for the shoot. I love moments like these because that’s what pulled me in to cinematography in the first place - noticing something beautiful out in the world and wanting everyone else to see it too.

We actually came to Iliffe Yard to recce a different studio, but noticed this one on the way in. Paul went in to speak to John and by the end we both felt this place had a lived in quality to it that went perfectly for the character of Vasco. It’s great when things go in an unexpected direction yet become all the better for it.

EARTH TO SKY

A surrealist short by @teppnox

This is a film that unexpectedly came out of a catch up with Paul, @teppnox . He mentioned wanting to direct more, and I happened to be looking for a project to shoot in my vacant grandparents’ home in Folkestone.

Only returning to the house as an adult did I appreciate just how wonderfully strange it is inside. Each room taking on a different colour, intricate wallpapers, kitsch murals and aquarium themed toilet seats.

I sent pictures of each room to Paul, and that was inspiration enough for him to come up with an entire story around it. Within 2 weeks, we were ready to shoot.

I’m immensely grateful for what we managed to make out of it.

The Thrill is Gone - Spec Musical Short Film

In the summer of 2025, with no one left to live there, it looked like we would have to say goodbye to my grandparents gorgeous home in Folkestone.

I wanted some way to commemorate and immortalise the house. I knew my memories of it would slowly fade and I wanted to have something to go back to and look at.

Each room has so much character, nothing is understated, every decision is bold. The directorial vision of @ariannascarpa.films and performance from @solo_chiara @lew.is_noble can be described exactly the same way.

Getting to revisit the house through the perspective of a cinematographer instead of a grandson, and opening up a home that existed only as a childhood memory to a wonderful crew, was a real joy. This was one of two shoots done in this house, second one to come soon…
