i finally got the chance to watch the new documentary “it’s never over, jeff buckley” directed by amy berg, it was amazing (i cried twice lol). i left feeling really inspired, so i made this cyanotype from a still in the final scene of jeff buckley singing “lover, you should’ve come over.” that song has always carried a weight i can’t quite put into words. anyone who knows me knows if it ever comes on in the car, i’ll skip it! not because i don’t love it, but because i will cry lol. jeff buckley’s music, especially this song, got me through some of my toughest moments. so making this still into a cyanotype felt like a way to honor those feelings. i felt like the contrast in this still showed the many different things his music can hold at once, the tenderness and devastation, grief and beauty, memory and loss, longing and release, among so many other things.

i know this is more than i usually write on here but i felt like including an informal artist statement just bc this is a meaningful thing for me 😌

p.s.) a cyanotype is a print made using the sun! the uv reacts with a mix of ferric ammonium citrate and potassium ferricyanide which is painted on paper to create that dark prussian blue color. when layered with a photonegative you can create some really cool prints using the sun!! ☀️ by @byjackietanner

i made this painting in 6-8 hours this past saturday/sunday 🍊

i went to go see the mucha exhibit at the nelson a bit ago and felt very inspired but didn’t really know what to do with that feeling. that was until something happened this past week that caused me to reflect on the last 4/5 months, i’ll keep it vague lol. that reflection gave me the idea for this composition, color scheme, and to only use a palette knife to paint this. started it at about 11 on saturday and finished it hastily in short sessions in the last day-ish before i left for alaska lol by @byjackietanner
