Who would have thought that little kid would end up looking like this? 😂

I’m Jon. I believe in the relentless pursuit of self. I’m still working on it. It’s a journey that I highly recommend everyone take.

I love music. You’ll see me messing around with the harmonica. I’m also just barely starting to learn how to play the bass.

I love the ocean. It brings me a peace like few other things do. Sharks are amazing and necessary and bad ass, and we need them.

I’m a certified open water scuba diver. I just checked that off. Being certified essentially gives me the license to be a novice. I’m excited to keep learning and experiencing.

I also love sports. I’m happy to talk about them with anyone.

I love writing. I need to do more of it.

I’m a big fan of tattoos. I want more.

I wear jewelry, I’m growing out my hair, and I’m a warrior romantic. Having feelings and expressing them doesn’t make you less of a man - it makes you more of one. Be passionate about what you’re passionate about.

25 years ago today was a moment that changed the world, and that changed my view of it.

Out of that devastation, though, arose a resilience of American spirit. The flag flew everywhere as a symbol of solidarity, of strength, of a country and a freedom that refused to be squashed.

In recent years, the American flag has been turned into a symbol of the opposite. I refuse to accept that. When I think of the American flag, I think of this. I believe in what this country has the potential to be, and I deeply hope for a future where that is realized. I want to be proud to be American again. by @byjonhelmkamp

Grainy because they were far away, but I saw this mama and little one nursing in the early morning light across a field while on a walk. Mama saw me and froze, but after I stood still for a couple minutes, they resumed what they were doing before eventually bounding off back into the cover od trees. That was a beautiful moment. by @byjonhelmkamp
