In POET AGAINST PREJUDICE, Faiza Almontaser, a Yemeni immigrant in Brooklyn, shares her experience of trying to find a place to fit within disparate cultures. For Jayshree, education was never something to take for granted. Taken out of school as a child to care for her siblings and work alongside her family at a brick kiln, she eventually found her way back to the classroom. At 16, she picked up a camera to tell a story bigger than her own. In FIRE IN OUR HEARTS, Jayshree introduces us to girls fighting for the chance to learn, families navigating poverty and migration and a community that sees education as a path toward dignity and a different future. For students learning about war, displacement, migration or identity, RETURN DATE: UNKNOWN offers what a textbook often can’t: a young person’s lived experience. Tymur Tsapliienko tells his own story of leaving Ukraine, being separated from his father and navigating what home means when returning is uncertain. Documentaries can do more than explain an issue. They can help us empathize with those who are experiencing it directly. Watch RETURN DATE: UNKNOWN and explore free teaching materials at BYkids.org. by @bykids
Imagine someone handed you a camera and said: show us your world. What would you film? Maybe it’s something happening in your community. Something you wish people understood. Something that makes you angry, hopeful or curious. Or maybe it’s a story that seems small to everyone else but means everything to you. That’s where documentaries can begin. So we want to hear from you: If you could make a film about anything, what story would you tell? Drop it in the comments. 👇 by @bykids
In the BYkids documentary AGAINST THE CURRENT, reconnecting with culture, community and tradition bring a feeling no stage, photoshoot or crowd could ever replace. It’s a reminder that knowing where we come from can shape how we understand who we are. Watch AGAINST THE CURRENT at BYkids.org by @bykids
Maybe the world would look different if we stopped seeing statistics and started listening to the people behind them. A reminder from the @bykids film BEEKEEPER that every number connects to a human story🐝 by @bykids

Young people are telling stories every day. The question is: Are they learning how to shape them? In our professional development workshops, educators explore how to help students move beyond simply sharing and start thinking more intentionally about voice, perspective, audience and impact. For teachers, that means creating space for students to not only tell their stories but to understand the power they have in how those stories are told. by @bykids
