My solo exhibition at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art WSU (@wsuartmuseum) opened last month. ‘An Unfinished Origin’ is, by far, the most comprehensive representation of my work to date. This exhibition is on view through June 27th. Please go see it, it is exactly how I’ve always envisioned my work being experienced. This show simply wouldn’t exist without the support of Ryan Hardesty, the Executive Director of JSMA. Ryan is one of the most meticulous and thoughtful collaborators I’ve had the privilege of working with in my career. I also want to thank the JSMA team: Jeff Smart, Marc McCay, Ann Saberi, and Kristin Becker. Their kindness and dedication to presenting the best version of this show will be hard to beat. 🤍🤍🤍 You can find the curatorial text and more installation images on my website (link in bio). A recent commissions, now part of a private collection in NYC. The challenges of this composition kept me on my toes until the very last strand was placed. Starting over is always an option, and I’ve done it plenty of times. The amount of WIP destroyed on the loom would surprise most people. I’m never too precious about my own work to start from zero at an instant. But that flip in my stomach as I work, and work some more, waiting to see if it all comes together…and OH, you stick the landing! Joyous! 😮‍💨😤🙌 AROUND WE GO Natural fibers, painted panel and wood frame 48 × 60 x 2 in 2026 More image under ‘Shield’ A big thank you to Katharine @masonlane_art for facilitating this commission.💕 #미미정 #mimijung by @bymimijung
The loom stage of LONG LIGHT, recently acquired for a private collection in Pacific Palisades, CA. My work is a record of what was contemplated during my abundant time with the loom. Following a loose sketch made with pencil on paper, I fill in the blank through an accumulation of woven lines. And in the command I have over the strand in the moment, a memory opens up. A memory of something that was misunderstood, or rather, not yet understood within the limitations of my experience, my gathered years on earth. In Long Light, a new narrative emerges, carrying its ripples forward. 🔔 New Work 🔔 WHERE WE REST, part of a new body of work, stems from a single way of being, unhurried. I create to think and think to create, and in that loop, I take time. As I build on the loom with my hands and thoughts percolate, I allow myself the indulgence of a long seeking of all that is worth another examination. Shipped from the studio to join a private collection in Riverside, CT. ‘The Origin Story’ is part of my Pareidolia series. The negative space, the open areas where the heavy wool parts, is where the story is told. As light reflects off the aluminum, the composition evolves, and your focus is carried with it. The story shifts with each viewing, shaped by the light and retold each time. 🔔 New work added🔔 The color of rust is not singular, but surfaces in maroons, crimsons, siennas, brick oranges, burgundies, and countless hues, each equally worthy of attention. Rust, in all its beauty, is a record of time in its surroundings. It speaks quietly of change.  The new body of work embodies this sentiment. In ‘A Gentle Foundation’ this particular shade of rust was chosen for how it stands against the blue while still feeling at ease, and for how its tone subtly shifts as it layers with the gray warp. What did you do over the summer? THIS. #미미정 #mimijung by @bymimijung
Six years in the making. Cast during my 2020 residency at @jmkac, assembled into sculptures and exhibited this year at @wsuartmuseum. The works exist between sculpture and ruin, resembling support structures abandoned mid-construction or eroded over time. These fractured pillars are joined by exposed industrial hardware such as heavy bolts and angled bars, almost as if a repair done in haste, just enough to hold it together. They invite the viewer to examine the passage of time through the lens of what is considered stable and fragile. The surfaces are roughly sandblasted, leaving small traces of burnt sand caught within the crevices. In my metalwork, I deliberately choose not to over-refine the finish, preserving the visible evidence of the foundry environment, which is a space that is loud, chaotic and caked in burnt sand and metal ash. A recent commission for a corporate collection in Greenwich, CT. Included some videos and photos of yours truly forking this piece to the nearest highway, as always, to meet the shipping truck from my remote studio. ⛰️🚜🚛 THE STEADY UNFOLDING Natural fibers, painted panel, walnut frame 60 x 72 x 3 in 2026 More images under ‘Shield’ on website #미미정 #mimijung by @bymimijung
NEW WORK 🔔 The Shield series has outlasted every other one to date. It constantly pokes at my curiosity (even when I’m trying to drift to sleep) and continues to challenge my process. It has evolved so much that it might be time to organize it into sub-series...add it to the list!
