We are like roses… 🌹

Beautiful beings who blossom. Our petals might fall and there are many layers to discover, but strip us back to basics and with a little sunlight, water and love, we can always bloom again.

If you know me (like, really know me), you’ll know I’ve never really felt like I belong or truly fit in. Cue the violins 🎻😂

No one has ever made me feel this way. I have gorgeous humans around me. It’s just how I’ve felt in many places I’ve lived, jobs I’ve worked and versions of life I’ve tried to squeeze myself into.

I’m 33 and there have been times I’ve thought “I can’t do this anymore”, “there’s something wrong with me” or “I’m living a life that isn’t mine.”

Whether that came from complex trauma, growing up as an undiagnosed neurodivergent girl in a world that wasn’t designed for my brain to thrive in, or a cocktail of both… who knows.

But I think my beautiful brain has finally realised something:

Those beliefs were never the truth.

Somewhere along the way I learnt that to keep others comfortable, I needed to hide or shrink. And that sucked the bloody life out of me.

So I’ve spent years remembering who I am and rebuilding this bitch back up 🌹

In a world constantly telling us we need more, I’ve spent the last two years doing less. I quit my London job, took a huge pay cut, moved to a quiet seaside town, started working from home, bought my first home with my partner Cieran (MEGA) and found a lovely little community.

I do less, but somehow have so much more.

More energy. More love. More time to notice what this planet gives us for free. More space for creativity. More sky to get lost in ⛅️

I thank younger me for not giving up, present me for finally listening, and Cieran for always making me feel safe and supported through the ugly cries and ultimate highs of finding my way back to myself over the past 8 years.

If you’re feeling this way, go back to basics. What brought you joy as a child? What makes you feel at home? What parts of yourself have you made smaller to fit?

Maybe you don’t need to become more. Maybe you just need the right conditions to grow.

Give yourself somewhere to blossom. You beautiful rose 🌹 taken in Margate, Kent by @bysabrinawray

When I was a wee nipper, I used to hum allllll the time, at home on my own, around the shops, in class (without realising, which often got me into trouble, especially when we should have been silent working 😴borrrrringggg) Singing / music has always made me feel safe, curious and in hindsight… regulated. Somewhere along the line, to become a singer songwriter became a ‘goal’ or my ‘destined path’. Maybe that is the case, maybe it isn’t who knows, but all I know is that singing is one of those few things I do to feel fulfilment, that is and has been part of my life, consistently. I’m having a break from singing or making music at the moment, however I can’t help but write almost every day and always find music to match my mood. Today, my mood brought me to one of my original songs ‘Lucky Escape’ and here’s some notes on how it made me feel, because, sometimes it’s nice to share thoughts. Hope your all having a lovely weekend - much love @bysabrinawray ♥️ taken in Margate, Kent by @bysabrinawray

Round two… because technology had other plans. 🙊🤍

A homemade video stitched together from little moments that meant something to me.

Thank you to the incredibly talented producer, drummer and mixer who helped bring this song to life, and to the people and places that unknowingly became part of its story.

Maybe it’ll be released one day, maybe it won’t.

Until then… I hope you enjoy this little glimpse into my world. ☼

Lilian Rose Prady 🌹completely heartbroken to have lost her, full of gratitude to have had her as our Nan, teacher, protector & lifelong friend🌹we had the most beautiful send off on Friday. I’m forever grateful to have so many cherished memories. What role models Nan Lil and Granddad Don were - an inspiration to say the least, they taught us the most important things there are to teach, it’s time for them to reunite, free from any pain and to rest in peace 🤍 With a heavy heart we continue to find light in the dark times and like the pair of them, I’ve chosen such an amazing partner to do life with. We stepped out into sunny Margs for some normality today, had banging food, knackered out Bobs and Cieran picked some gorgeous fresh flowers for our flat, Lillies and a Rose. Nans favourite ♥️🫶🏼 Nat King Cole was also one of her favourites. Night Nan, Tada - we love you always. xx taken in Margate, Kent by @bysabrinawray

The past few months have been a bit of a whirlwind … my sense of identity and purpose totally disappeared. Thank god! Grateful for the opportunity to shed skin and rebuild myself. Grateful for the chance to relearn, embody and embrace who I am and not be bogged down with ‘what I do’. Grateful for the people around me who continually and genuinely support and love me. Proud that I’m creating a happy, healthy and humble life & am back to a point where I am able to pour back the love and energy into those who I really wouldn’t be here without. Not sure why I felt the need to share this… but I sincerely wish the same for all of you. Sending out love, comfort & joy to anyone who needs it 🫶🏼 don’t get caught up in the trap 🪤 and eat the cheese. WHOLE 🧀 nom nom. Have a good weekend cya byeeeeeeeee 👋🏼 taken in Margate, Kent by @bysabrinawray
