If you wait until November or Black Friday to drop your holiday items on Etsy, you end up missing the early search wave.

If you are building a small business and feel like you are doing everything but nothing is clicking, some of this might sting a little… 👀

Also saying this with lots of love because I want you to win!!! I’m a marketer by trade so I want to help you out!

1. You are naming your products like an artist, not a buyer
Most people will never find your listing if the title sounds poetic but no one is searching for it. Think about how you type when searching on your phone. Use plain phrases like “minimalist eucalyptus thank you cards” instead of creative names no buyer would ever type into the search bar.

2. You are spending money before you are making money
Investing in custom packaging, branded tissue paper, and expensive software when you have zero sales is burning through cash you do not have yet. Keep your startup costs simple until you make actual sales. Skip the ribbons and the $50 a month tools and start with what Etsy already gives you for free.

3. Trying to juggle TikTok, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, and email at the same time burns you out before sales ever become consistent. Social media is harder because people go on social media mostly for entertainment, not to be sold to.

4. You are ignoring your listing photos
Your first image has half a second to earn the click before someone scrolls past. If your main photo is dark, blurry, or cluttered, it does not matter how good the product is.

5. You think you need a big following to make real sales
I made almost 8k sales on Etsy without barely posting on social media. You do not need 10k followers to build a five figure shop. Focus on SEO and let search do the heavy lifting in the background while you build in small pockets of time.
