At @byv____, Vanessa Nguyen designs invitations that look like no one else’s.

In our interview, the Melbourne-based designer explains why she steps away from a recognisable ‘wedding aesthetic,’ drawing instead from the people a project is for, alongside culture, fashion and art.

She designs for longevity, treats a beautifully made object as a keepsake, and thinks of an invitation as a guest’s first encounter – a considered reveal that sets a tone before anything else. She’s candid, too, on running BYV.STUDIO largely solo, from a home studio, and why creative fit guides with whom she works.

I tend to move on from ideas quickly. I’m driven by evolution rather than repetition, which means every project becomes a chance to test new directions, experiment with different visual languages, and push the work a little deeper.
