a quick glance at any of my notebooks, watercolor pads, work planners, hardcover books - even pizza boxes before they’ve hit the recycling - you’ll see doodles. and where there are doodles, there are shapes.

if I’m playing historian, i started playing around with this design during my time in mazunte. sometimes structured and in shades of brick, sometimes soft and resembling seaglass, these shapes are one of the easiest ways for me to turn down the volume and fill a page.

“hey, emma, pretty weird of you to mention your love of custom cards against a backdrop of a birthday card assembly line.”

ok some might say it was a powerful juxtaposition but either way, here is one of my favorite bespoke jobs from last year: a congrats card for my very dudely, whiskey-loving boss becoming a grandfather for the first time. we presented it along with a walker. one part of the gift went over way better than the other. by @bywarmlyem

design no. 1 🎂

i’ve been making my own celebratory and greeting cards since high school, and this whole time, they’ve been made with a specific person in mind, for a specific occasion. customized, is the word i’m looking for. i love looking at a blank page, and finding a way to fill it with something specifically catered to the recipient. a favorite flower, a memory, a little emblem. it’s satisfying, both creatively and for the soul. personal touches are what “warmly em” is all about (you can read more about that on my website warmlyem.com… once I publish it).

but, this summer i discovered the joy of having a stock of premade cards (do you have any idea how many people are born in the summer? like a quarter of them).

i often get bogged down trying to nail the “thoughtful bullseye,” if you will, and something i am actively working on is not letting perfect be the enemy of done. like, a “generic” card is better than no card at all! (or so im telling myself). so i sat down and made a cheeky birthday cake. and then i made another. and the another! and then i had a stack of them. and suddenly every leo i know was receiving a lil cake card.

so here you are - my first ready-to-rock design. DM me to stock up (or to conjure up a style made just for you). weeeeee!!! by @bywarmlyem
