— CheongDamChae // @cheongdamchae_sg [invite]

For those who enjoy Korean BBQ and comforting Korean dishes, CheongDamChae brings together a selection of grilled specialities, traditional stews & familiar favourites.

We had a mix of:
• Jjukkumi Samgyeopsal
Baby octopus and pork belly came with a spicy kick, but wasn’t too bad when wrapped in lettuce as it helped to balance out the heat, making each bite more enjoyable.

• Beef Brisket Doenjang Stew
A hearty Korean soybean paste stew filled with ingredients. A comforting option to have alongside the other dishes, especially if you enjoy savoury Korean stews.

• Tteokbokki
This was creamy and not spicy, with a sauce that reminded me of rosé tteokbokki. The rice cakes were cooked nicely, with a good chew.

• Steamed Eggs
A classic Korean BBQ side that makes a nice addition to the meal. The soft, fluffy egg is a comforting option to have alongside the more savoury dishes.

Thank you for the invite @cheongdamchae_sg 🐙

From the team behind the popular @omote.sg, we got to try out their creative udon bowls.

Here’s what we ordered —
• Signature Miso Carbonara
A rich and creamy bowl topped with black pork, bacon and duck. The meat was so tender and really went well with the creamy, cheesy sauce.

• Mediterranean
Came with a really generous portion of eel, together with Kurobuta pork, squid and tiger prawn. The kabayaki oyster sauce gave the dish a nice savoury flavour, with the eel being the highlight.

• Niku Sukiyaki
This was surprisingly addictive! Despite the lighter colour, the seasoning was really flavourful and went nicely with the beef. A rather refreshing dish as it served chilled.

• Truffle Tako
The truffle smell was quite strong when it came, although the truffle taste was more subtle. The octopus was triple-fried and had a nice chew.

• Pari Pari Chicken
The chicken was crispy and coated in a honey soy garlic sauce. This was really packed with garlic, so definitely for those who enjoy a stronger garlic flavour.

• Charred Chicken Wings
Loved that these were boneless, which made them really easy to eat. Simple but good, with a nice tanginess from the lemon zest.|

• Kiwi Highball
A refreshing drink with a light kiwi sweetness, while the soda kept it crisp and easy to drink.

• Lychee Ginjyo Martini
Fruity and refreshing with a noticeable lychee flavour. Came with fresh lychees too, which was a nice touch.

Thank you to the ever so wonderful team for the invite & great service! 🤍

— Kōki Alternative Bread Bar // @koki.singapore [invite]

As someone who loves bread, this place was right up my alley. It’s the kind of spot that works well any time of the day, with an intimate space filled with natural light that makes it really easy to slow down and enjoy your meal. Definitely a great place for a relaxed brunch.

What we ordered —
• Bouffalant | $30
Served with brioche and generously topped with a mix of mushrooms and cheeses. The combination was rich and savoury, while the truffle honey added a subtle sweetness that complemented the flavours nicely.

• With The Fish | $28
Served with shokupan, this was a more savoury option featuring smoked salmon, smoked scamorza, lime & spring onion cream and cheesy scramble.

• Elot-Husk | $7
A simple yet flavourful side of corn topped with feta crumbles, Tajín, smoked paprika, lime & cilantro. The combination of sweet, tangy and slightly spicy flavours made this a refreshing side.

• Truffle X | $22
A truffle-loaded option with truffle seasoning, truffle cream, truffle oil, truffle chips & parmesan. The truffle flavour was prominent throughout, super addictive.

• Matcha Gao | $11
A matcha gao served with salted cheese foam. The creamy and slightly savoury cheese foam paired nicely with the matcha, adding a nice contrast to the sweetness.

• Peach Osmanthus Oolong | $16
A refreshing oolong tea with a light peach sweetness and delicate floral osmanthus notes.

Thank you to the loveliest team from @koki.singapore for the most amazing bread dishes, can’t wait to be back to try the Smoked Cod Liver & Toast that I’ve been seeing! 🤤💗

— SOI By Nick // @soibrunch [invite]

Another place for a quick weekend getaway, other than JB. There were quite a few cafes around this area in Batam, and we were able to grab some desserts after lunch here.

Here’s what we got to enjoy —
• Matcha Latte | Ajisai 2.0
Made with ceremonial-grade matcha by Niko Neko.
A harmonious balance of nuttiness, creamy umami and gentle bitterness, though leaning towards a lighter profile.

• Pandan Bingsu
Fluffy Korean shaved ice topped with smooth premium matcha, with a subtle hint of fragrant pandan sweetness. Light and refreshing, with the bread on the side adding a nice contrast in texture.

• Nutella Cheesecake
Rich and creamy cheesecake with a subtle Nutella flavour that is not too overpowering. Recommend sharing as it may get a little heavy after a few bites.

Thank you to the team @soibrunch for a lovely dessert break 🍨💗

— Puffs and Peaks // @puffsandpeaks

Pretty sure everyone knows of this place by now for their buttermilk hotcakes, so of course I had to head down as well.

Here’s what we got:
• Buttermilk Hotcake (Single) | $9
The highlight of the visit. Soft, fluffy yeasted hotcake served with honey butter maple syrup and New Zealand butter. Light yet satisfying, with a gentle sweetness that comes together beautifully — a simple dish, but done really well and surprisingly impressive. Regretted not ordering a double stack.

• Grilled Cheese Sandwich | $13.90
A rich, comforting sandwich made with sourdough and a blend of mozzarella, provolone, asiago, and cheddar. Super cheesy and satisfying, especially when paired with the tomato dip that adds a slight tang to balance the richness.

• Iced Matcha Latte | $7.50
Smooth and easy to drink, a simple pairing alongside the heavier bakes and desserts. Nothing too special.

For their bakes, we tried:
• Malted Cornflake Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie | $4.50
• Valrhona Brownie | $5
• Brookie | $4.20
• Roasted Pistachio Tart V2.0 | $10
• 5-Cheese Focaccia Tartine | $5.90

Loved the place as the interior feels really cosy, though it was rather crowded when we were there. Can’t wait to be back again for their hotcakes, still dreaming about it now.

— Nan Yang Dao // @nanyangdao [invite]

An unexpected collaboration with KitKat brings a range of chocolatey creations to the menu, alongside Nan Yang Dao’s signature Malaysian dishes.

We had to get —
• Prawn Paste Fried Chicken Chop with Dried Hor Fun |$10.90
The prawn paste chicken was nicely seasoned and not too hard, while the hor fun had a really nice seasoning that paired well together.

• Scallion Oil Pan-Grilled Chicken Chop with Fried Rice | $10.90
A pan-grilled chicken chop with scallion oil, paired with fried rice and their signature Hainanese sauce. The sauce was tangy and sweet & sour, which went nicely with the chicken. The fried rice was lighter on seasoning, so the sauce helped bring more flavour to the dish.

• Nanyang Chicken Satay | $15
The chicken satay was so soft and tender, pulling apart from the stick really easily. Came with a peanut sauce for dipping, adding a nice nutty and savoury element.

• Puppy Love Ice Kacang Premium | $5
A refreshing local dessert with shaved ice and assorted toppings — a nice way to end the meal.

• Polo Bun Made with KitKat | $5.20
This was surprisingly good! The polo bun was soft with a nice crisp exterior, while the KitKat sauce and crunchy bits added a nice chocolatey flavour and texture.

• Iced KitKat Drink | $4.20
Tasted like a chocolate drink with that familiar wafer-like flavour from the KitKat.

• Lychee Drink | $4.50
Quite sweet but a good thirst quencher, and came with big lychees that made it more enjoyable.

Thank you for the kind invite @nanyangdao ✨

Always down for a good pizza and got the chance to drop by to try these dishes —
• 4 Cheese & Truffle Honey | $39
Probably my favourite dish! The combination of cheeses worked so well with the sweet honey, which had a subtle truffle aroma.

• River Prawn Spaghetti | $29
The prawn was huge, though personally felt that it was slightly overcooked as the texture was a little mushy. The pasta was also rather spicy for my liking, but still had a good amount of flavour.

• Baby Squid | $19
Charcoal-smoked squid served with peperonata puree and caramelised onions.

• Tuscan Pork Tenderloin | $15
A little on the dry side, but the seasoning was good with a nice spicy kick from the jalapeño and tomato.

• Roasted Cauliflower | $15
Unfortunately not really to my liking as it was rather bland. Definitely a lighter and healthier option though.

• Grilled Octopus | $27
Another favourite! The potato was soft and comforting, while the octopus was nicely cooked with a really satisfying chew. The smoked paprika added a nice depth of flavour too.

• Berry Cookie Dream | $7.80
A safe and familiar option — tastes almost like a strawberry McFlurry with the cookies & cream and berry combination.

• Orchard Apple Fizz | $8.50
Fizzy and refreshing, with a noticeable apple flavour from the kombucha.

• Biscoff Matcha Crumble | $8.80
Creamy matcha paired with caramelised Biscoff cookie crumbs. My favourite drink out of the four.

• Velvet Banana Latte | $7.80
Creamy banana with espresso, with the sweetness adding a nice touch to the coffee. Surprisingly good.

• Waffle French Toast | $14
An interesting sweet-savoury combination with Brie tucked between the waffles. The savoury cheesiness paired nicely with the berry compote, vanilla champagne gelato was really good & added a nice sweetness to the dish.

Ongoing Deals:

• 10% off Paleo Bowl through Oct (Dine-in, Star Vista outlet)
• $3 off all drinks w Student ID (Dine-in)

— Folk Yard // @folkyard.sg

Known for their sandwiches & pizzas, this popular neighbourhood cafe has quickly become a go-to spot.

Tried the dinner menu —
• Cheesy Baby | $22
A sweet yet savoury cheese pizza featuring gruyère, parmesan, and gorgonzola, finished with hot honey. Personal favourite. The sweetness of the honey balanced the savoury cheeses so nicely. The spice remains subtle, allowing the cheese flavours to come through. Dough is airy and has a nice chew.

• Pork Collar V2 | $24
Rather tender and juicy, with a nicely cooked interior that keeps the meat flavourful throughout. Simple, satisfying, and easy to enjoy.

• Roasted Cabbage | $16
An interesting dish that brings familiar Thai-inspired flavours to the table. The green curry butter gives it a fragrant, aromatic kick, while the cabbage is cooked until soft and tender without turning mushy.

• Rose Lychee Cold Brew | $6
Light, floral, and refreshing. The rose and lychee complement each other well without becoming overly sweet.

• Iced Matcha | $7.50
A lighter matcha that leans more milky. Not particularly sweet and matcha flavour felt a little more subtle.

Definitely coming back again for their sandwiches and their highly-raved fried brussels. The pizza honestly got me good and truly made me crave for it.

— Beth // @welcometobeth

Made reservations for a Saturday morning and was rather packed when we arrived.

We tried the:
• Truffle & Beef Carpaccio Sandwich | $23
A savoury-leaning option with thinly sliced beef carpaccio, truffle oil, arugula, and stracciatella on focaccia. The flavours are clean and slightly luxurious, with the truffle adding depth while the cheese brings a smooth, creamy element to balance the dish.

• Pistachio & Mortadella Sandwich | $18
Another combination that leans rich & slightly sweet balanced by the freshness of the greens and the light tang from the chutney — a well-rounded, flavourful bite that feels indulgent but not too heavy.

• Beth’s Hotcake | $17
The main reason for coming was to try out their signature hotcake. The 24-hour fermented hotcake was the star. The sweetness of the honey soy maple pairs beautifully with the tangy strawberry rhubarb jam, while the whipped butter adds a light savoury touch. Very addictive and well-balanced.

• Ragu Fennel Pasta | $25
Conchiglie rigate coated in a rich pork and beef ragu. The sauce is hearty and well-developed, clinging nicely to the pasta, while the pickled fennel cuts through the richness with a subtle tang and freshness.

• Sour Cream Fried Chicken, Tomato | $24
Crispy skin on the outiside with tender meat within, coated in a sour cream seasoning with a rich tangy tomato sauce. Skin gets slightly soggy after a while. Would prefer if the sauce was served on the side.

• Greek Mountain Tea (Iced) | $6.50
An earthy, floral tea with subtle notes of mint, citrus, & sage. A more acquired taste that leans herbal & light.

• House White (Hot) | $6.50
A straightforward cup — smooth and familiar, just like a classic hot white.

• Banana Milk Matcha Latte | $9
Smooth and creamy with a strong banana milk profile. Quite liked it.

Loved the interior of the cafe. It’s been awhile since I’ve visited and it seemed like they’ve rebranded/revamped their menu, but would definitely drop by again for the hotcakes though it may be slightly pricey.

— SHAO // @shao.singapore [invite]

First few times trying out Teochew Cuisine, and it definitely won’t be the last. SHAO has brought a modern touch to traditional teochew flavour through its contemporary presentation and dining experience.

These were the dishes we tried —
• Marinated Roe Crab | $78
Definitely a favourite! Unlike the usual Korean-style marinated crab which leans more sweet and savoury, this had a more savoury profile with a slight spicy kick. The crab was really fresh, and mixing the roe and sauce with rice made it even better.

• Braised Combination Platter | $38
A combination of braised duck, pig trotter and tau kwa, making this a good option for sharing and trying a little of everything.

• Pan Fried Shrimp Pancake | $28
Good chew with bits of shrimp in every bite, paired with a slightly sweet dipping sauce that complemented it nicely.

• Fried Rice with Mixed Seafood | $22
Lightly seasoned fried rice with some seafood.

• Beef Ball Soup in Teochew Style | $22
Soup was light & comforting with beef balls.

• Stir Fried Qing Long Cai | $18
Simply stir-fried and nicely seasoned, great balance added to the meal.

• Fujian Wuyi Rock Tea | $12
A fragrant Chinese tea with a deeper, roasted profile, making it a nice pairing alongside the meal.

Thank you @shao.singapore for the amazing service & attentive staff 🌟

— US Pizza // @uspizzasg [invite]

Back here once again to try out their classic pizzas, but this time they’ve recently launched a new & unique flavour inspired by local tastebuds! Never thought i’d be trying this combination on a pizza, but surprisingly it worked really well.

Here’s what we tried —
• Beef Pepperoni Cheese Fountain Pizza
Generously layered with beef pepperoni all around the pizza,
with a nacho cheese dip in the middle for an extra cheesy kick.

• Musang King Durian Pistachio Cheese Pizza
A newly developed flavour inspired by local taste buds! The prominent Musang King durian flavour pairs surprisingly well with the cheese without overpowering it. The pistachio sauce in the centre tastes almost like white chocolate, adding a subtle sweetness to each bite.

• Sunset Mango Cooler
Lightly fizzy with subtle mango flavour that keeps it refreshing.

• Lemonade Cooler
Citrusy and was a good thirst-quencher.

• Strawberry Matcha Latte
Thick strawberry syrup layered over the matcha.

Thank you @uspizzasg for letting me try your unique pizza creations! They’re running a 40% off promo all year long so do try them out 🌟

— NAOCHA // @naocha.sg [invite]

The cutest home cafe serving matcha that is light enough for those who aren’t usual matcha drinkers.

We decided to try —
• Signature Matcha Latte | $7.10
Hand-whisked with Yame matcha for a smooth, nutty profile with low bitterness & slight natural sweetness. Opted for oat milk.

• Ichigo Strawberry Matcha | $7.70
Made with house-made strawberry purée & fresh strawberry bits, which complemented the matcha nicely without overpowering it.

• Sea Salt Toffee Cloud | $7
Creamy sea salt cold foam with hints of toffee, brown sugar & slight caramel. Made with maple syrup imported from Canada.

Thank you @naocha.sg for letting us try your matcha creation! 🍵💗
