One of my absolute highlights of the year so far was putting on this exhibition back in February for Michael Reid Northern Beaches.

Entitled ‘Sunkissed’ the show revolved around the importance of Sunlight to an Australian photographic canon, drawing together a selection of contemporary photographic artists in relation to two key works from Max Dupain.

It was really incredible to get hold of some of Dupains iconic images in person, including a 1980s print of Sunbaker from his personal collection (not pictured).

It was also amazing to work with @yvettehamilton whose work I’ve admired for a long time. Celestial #2 was a finalist in the Bowness in 2025, and it absolutely shone in person.

I recently concluded my thesis on Australian photography curation, and this felt like a real full circle moment after all my research, it was an absolute delight by @c.boland_art

Last night I visited the 2025 SCA ‘New Contemporaries’ grad showcase.

Sprawled across three levels of the Old Teachers College in USyd, this monumental exhibition brought a whole bunch of new and exciting emerging art together in one space.

It’s a real finger on the pulse moment to attend these grad shows, and fantastic to see the quality of the work on display

Congratulations to everyone who’s work was on display, especially the veterans who started with me at SCA in 2021. I can’t way to see what you do next!

Just last week I had the absolute privilege to sit down with the incredible Helen Ennis to talk about her new book, Max Dupain: A Portrait, and its nomination for the NIB literary award.

When she agreed to take the interview from @honi_soit I have no doubt she was expecting a series of vaguely relevant questions from an aspiring student reporter who had touched on the key passages from the book.

What she got instead was someone who’d just spent a year writing a thesis on Australian photography (of which Helen is a regular feature), and desperately needed to talk about it with anyone who would listen.

Though much of it didn’t make the final cut, it was amazing to hear the absolute wealth of knowledge that she had, and to get such an insight into Dupain’s world.

I’ve included two of my favourite excerpts from the interview, I hope you find them interesting.

On a recent trip to Melbourne, I got to survey the National Gallery of Victoria’s winter programming

Whilst there I attended three paid exhibitions, Kimono at NGV International, and Cats and Dogs and Martin Grant at NGV Australia

Kimono, which the first series of photographs hails from, was a fantastic survey of what exactly the Japanese garment is, meticulously examining the history of the dress, its differing social uses, the role of it in media, and how accessories developed alongside it, from the 15th C. Into the modern day

Cats and Dogs was a fantastically designed piece of populist programming, which delivered exactly what it said on the tin. Curators had trawled the NGV collection to find various depictions of both cats and dogs in various guises, roles, and mediums, and used it to frame a joyful and fun exhibition of works. Though by no means groundbreaking, there was a certain joie de vivre and populist appeal which made it a rousing success, particularly in the school holidays

Finally, Martin Grant presented a survey of the acclaimed Australian designer, drawing on over 100 pieces of his clothing alongside a host of archival materials and minutia. It was well constructed and creatively curated, exactly what I’d expect from the NGV.

It was interesting to witness the difference in audiences at the NGV Australia. In Cats and Dogs, large crowds of families with young children thronged through the entire show, whilst Martin Grant was far more sparse, occupied by elegantly dressed women in their 50s, occasionally accompanied by their teenage daughters (it reminded me a lot of my mum taking me to fashion exhibitions)

All round it was a fantastic showcase, and look forward to my next visit

Back in June, I was invited by @articulate.advisory to preview @tompolo exhibition in @ngununggula for @honi_soit

Though the exhibition has now ended, I wanted to circle back and highlight just how successful it was. The show was fresh and innovative, simultaneously striking whilst not overwhelming the viewer with its vision.

It was also a fantastic introduction to new director @susimuddiman who I had the pleasure to discuss the exhibition with, and look forward to seeing how she steers the gallery going forward.

Congratulations to the Ngununggula team, @roslynoxley9 @stationgalleryaustralia @amesyavuz and everyone else involved in this fantastic project

The second of my two pieces on @dark_mofo focuses on the idea of ‘culthood’ in art and the bizarre religious performativity of David Walsh and MONA as a whole.

From gift shop kitsch to temporary construction hoardings, David is eponymous with MONA, and for good reason. It is unique, bizarre, intriguing and one of the best things in our art scene at the moment.

To find out more about this unique art institution, click the link in my bio to read the piece or visit

Above are some highlights from the first of two articles I wrote about my experiences at Dark Mofo 2025.

It’s hard to think of much to say because everything that I want to talk about I’ve discussed already. This was an incredible week of art, music, and madness.

If you’re interested in the general vibes of the festival, and seeing some key highlights, then I would recommend reading this first piece, if you’d prefer some more analytical insight into the festival as a whole and its conceptual underpinning, read my other piece ‘Night Mass, MONA, and the Cult of David Walsh’

I was recently invited down to Tasmania for to write about Dark Mofo for @honi_soit

One of the highlights of the experience was getting to visit MONA itself and see all the craziness that was on display.

Opening alongside Dark Mofo was the @arcangelosassolino exhibition ‘In the end, the beginning’. This captivating series focused on movement and light, exploring sculptural forms and finding beauty in stillness. It is a must see for anyone going down and will be on display until April 2026

I will be posting the full review, alongside coverage of Dark Mofo itself, in the next few days so keep your eyes peeled taken in MONA - Museum of Old and New Art by @c.boland_art

I’m visiting Tasmania at the moment and was lucky enough to see @rachelhonnery_artist work for the ‘Art for Takayana’ exhibition in @salamancaartscentre

The exhibition, supported by the Bob Brown Foundation, was a confrontation of the continued deforestation of the Tasmanian Forests. Centring on the Tarkine Forest, the works act as a call to action, and symbolise a rebellion against climate change and the effects of corporations on the natural landscape.

Recently, I was invited to review ‘Chameleons’ a new exhibition of work by @hollywgreenwood showing at @olsen_gallery for @honi_soit

The exhibition really resonated with me, and it was fantastic to be able to peel back the layers of these complex pieces of work. They’re simultaneously celebratory and melancholy, and showcase the depth and dimension that a new generation of artists are bringing to me medium.

In a wonderful speech, gallery director @timjolsen described how Greenwood demonstrated conclusively that “painting is not dead” and I couldn’t agree more.

If you’re interested I’ve linked the full review in my bio, or you can find it by visiting

Had a great time helping @rachelhonnery_artist install her new series ‘Forest of Lines’ in @airspaceprojects

The series presents a contemplative meditation on the natural environment, beautifully paring photographs of the Tasmanian forests with abstracted yarn and wax sculptures echoing an environment rendered inaccessible to the audience by the gallery it is situated in.

It’s an utterly fantastic series and I encourage everyone to attend!

Forest of Lines opens this Friday 7 March from 6-8pm, and @rachelhonnery_artist is giving a talk on her work on Saturday 22 March from 12:00pm - 1:30pm by @c.boland_art
