🕯️i have been ruminating on a lot. on my time here in santa fe & my friends that are here and far away & my roommate & chosen family & my late grandma & my birthday & my girlhood & queerness but i am not surprised this is the first poem i’ve written in months since the winter solstice. something about the eclipse season that puts things into perspective for me. if you are reading this i love you and i love living authentically & if you know me you also know this and you also know that it has been this way all along.

all of these pictures you’ve probably also seen but now there’s MY HANDwriting on them so look again. anyways. enjoy the constant iridescent fluttering of my heart 🏳️‍🌈

staring into / the morning sun / with my body, / raw with insides yearning / this cycle / this torture has somehow become habitual / the warmest of rituals with no spark / when it is light out / what does my body mean to you / when it is not in the dark / what does my body mean / weighed out to you / am i a bundle of girlhood & memories & something raw / meat to be consumed? / these thoughts cut me to the bone

as i make eye contact with a hummingbird / she is buzzing in the center of a familiar marrow colored frame / waiting in the breeze /

of an open door / patiently awaiting my response / as if asking / could i come in? i have something to tell you

/ in a single breath she says / you are going to try to run from it and you’ll do okay for some time but i promise your legs will give out and when they do you need to give yourself the grace to lay down for a while

as the words leave her mouth / her voice a quiet whisper / a decibel only i can hear / i am shining / body bathing in sunlight / my unshaven legs give out beneath me

before i can give an answer / i watch another one of my iridescent heartbeats flutter away /

forgive me for my candor / tonight i have swallowed some sort of sweetness / a taste of honeyed liquid courage that i cannot keep down /

i cannot hide from a bird’s true nature. much less my own — i never have / under the eyes of the passed & the moon & sun & the heavens above & the dirt below / there is something to declare / i am finally done running.
