After grief and solitude. On the 9th of September 2026, was the final day I got the chance to speak to my father and the last time I heard from him. It was two days out from the nordic sub junior and junior championships in Finland. My dad had been planning to drive out to Finland to watch me compete. It was a 6h drive and ferry. Before hand he had explained every single detail of the planned trip and how excited he was to come and see me compete again since the first and only competition he saw was nationals 2026.

By the time I had arrived to Finland I didn’t really put any effort to contact him and ask how it is going. Which if I’ve done it maybe would’ve changed how things would’ve gone or atleast got to say something more to my father.

The 10 of September I was taking my morning slow and just preparing for game day the next day. I’d yet still couldn’t bother to ask my dad on how’s it was going or anything. At 06.23 I got a message from my mom. It said that my father wasn’t going to Finland and I was mad that he cancalled at last minute and made me feel like I wasted time even caring that he was going to come in the first place.

At the competition I was sad and irritated when I saw my national teammates dads and family be there for them and my dad not. But I didn’t know that he had passed away from a heart attack at 11 pm 9th of September. I will forever live in shame and regret for never thanking him enough for what he tried to help me with in my life. He may have not always been there in the picture for my childhood, but he was proud to be my dad and I who couldn’t not wish for any other.

Blessed be the Lord, Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. by @c.nordstrm
