Back for another visit to the “Mothership” of tiki bars, the Mai Kai. A fabulous old school, over the top, tiki bar.

Recent spent a couple of weeks in FL writing on the new book.

My protagonist, Buddy Jenks, kind of likes this place. Being oddly really into all things from the 1960s, it has a vibe he really likes. ce-hunt.com

I have another article in the next Exotica Moderne! I loved working on this article with @official_beachbumberry and Mrs. Bum. They are so much fun to work with. The back story of @latitude29nola was awesome to learn. Check it out in this upcoming issue. @houseoftabu

We are burning down the house…

Truer words were never written, from John D. MacDonald’s BRIGHT ORANGE FOR THE SHROUD published in 1965–

“They are turning Tampa into the customary nothing. It used to be memorable as one of the grubbiest and most infuriating traffic mazes south of the Chelsea area of Boston.
Now they are ramming the monster highways through it, and one day soon it will become merely a momentary dinginess. They’ve opened up the center of the city into a more spacious characterlessness, and, more and more, they are converting Ybor City into fake New Orleans. In some remote year the historians will record that Twentieth Century America attempted the astonishing blunder of changing its culture to fit automobiles instead of people, putting a saw of concrete and asphant over millions of acres of arable land, rotting the hearts of their cities, so encouraging the proliferation of murderous, high-speed junk that when finally the invention of the Transporlon rendered the auto obsolete, it took twenty years and half a trillion dollars to obliterate the ugliness of all the years of mad-ness, and rebuild the supercities in a manner to dignify the human instead of his toys.”

My old reliable, The Greyhound. Gin, grapefruit juice and ice. You press the accelerator is much or as little as you like. It is good with a little or a lot of gin. All depends on your mood and needs. Some folks like a twist of lemon. My current protagonist, Buddy, loves them and, other than Martinis, regularly favors one.

The cocktail is has a noble, grounded, rockribbed pedigree. I’ve posted on that. Been on an 80s music kick. Other than The Cult, the Cure, The Outfield, New Order, Def Leppard and a handful of others, I had mistakenly written the eighties off as a musical wasteland. I am rediscovering to treasures offered by the 1980s.

I noticed the finest hot spice in the galaxie, @louisiana_hot_sauce photobombed the picture. ce-hunt.com

How the sauce was consumed. We served it over @giovannisiracusaa ‘s zucchini “meatball” recipe. The fresh sauce and zucchini balls paired wonderfully!

I write. I often include a little food in my stories. 😊 ce-hunt.com

A miraculous solution to a common “problem” this time of year.

I saw Slowdive at @civicnola a couple of years ago. Incredible concert.

I write. I garden. I cook. I try to be a decent human. 😊
