I recently made what I think might be the perfect jug for a board. Good enough for the warm ups, but not so good that it ceases to be useful as the session progresses. It’s maybe the most versatile hold I’ve ever made. It works anywhere on the board. Start, finish, warm ups, projects. You name it. Difficulty can be dialed in by the movement, all the while you get to hang on a nice large comfortable edge. 45mm deep, 15-20º incut, with a half inch radius. It’s not the only hold you should climb on (no hold is), but it can certainly be a part of nearly any boulder problem you want.

Parfait (V3/V4) - Uinta Mountains, UT | July 1, 2026

Fun day out in the Uintas the other day with @cwebbing. Started out on this really wonderful boulder problem. Perfect slow flowy movement on some dreamy holds with bullet rock. Excellent for warming up and getting going. Thanks @larbot for all the info. Mega helpful! Very much looking forward to getting back out there.

Back when I first did this thing in 2014 it felt really hard. For perspective, at that time I think my max amount of sessions spent on a single problem was 5 and this one took me 4. Everything else I had done up to that point was comprised of multiple moves and sections, but this was the first with a single stopper move, and that made it quite a bit different. Instead of being able to vary the moves and sections I’d try in a session, I was stuck trying this one move over and over and over again. It felt like the whole grade was wrapped up in this one single move instead of being made up by multiple moves and linking them together. Probably why those 4 sessions ended up taking place over many months.

Recently, I tried it again for the first time since then, and did it first try. It felt amazing! It’s really cool to see the effort and discipline of a decade+ manifest itself in such a stark contrast like that.

A couple months ago I was down in Moe’s and thought I’d try to repeat some boulders I hadn’t tried in a long time to gauge where I was at. Some of them I remembered pretty well and others not so much. This one was a mix of both where I remembered the main parts, but forgot some of the details.
