Before I started talking to Cynthia, there was one question I heard every time I walked into church:

“Is today your wedding day?”

At first, it felt like a joke. But after hearing it every Sunday and Wednesday for about two months, I started paying attention. I even told my lovely second mummy, “I perceive that it’s my time.”

I couldn’t explain it. I wasn’t trying to spiritualize anything, but I just knew something was in the air. Funny enough, there was a time I didn’t even want to get married. A lot can happen in a year.

Then I met Cynthia.

From the month we started talking, I kept telling myself, “There’s no way in the world I’m not marrying this woman.”

We didn’t waste time. We had every serious conversation imaginable because we both wanted to know exactly what we were doing. It felt easy. It felt right. It felt like last bus stop.

I prayed one simple prayer: “God, if this isn’t where You want me to be, please take me out. I don tire to dey suffer.”

Not long after, I had a dream about a few purple boxes and choosing one. I asked my dad what he thought it meant.

He said, “There’s someone you’ve either met or you’re about to meet. Whoever she is, know that’s your wife.”

I smiled because I already knew and while we were driving, I told him, “I’ve met her. Her name is Cynthia.”

The next January, we made our vision board together. One of the things she wrote down was “Proposal.” I laughed and said, “Clean that. You have no idea what God can do. Draw marriage instead.”

So we erased it, drew two little stick figures, and connected them with a ring.

Today, those stick figures have names.

I’m glad it’s you and happy it will always be you. My life has significantly been better since you came into it. You are my good thing. This is the one person I’m really happy to tell my friends about. I’m glad, honesty glad it is you my love ❤️

Plot twist: the groom was helping me film the bride’s interview, and neither of them told me. 😂

I was filming an interview at church when I noticed Cynthia’s engagement ring. While chatting and helping her feel comfortable on camera, I asked whether her fiancé attended the same church.

She said yes, but she would not tell me who he was. So naturally, I decided I would find him myself.

The entire time, Ebube, the man helping me with the interview, stood right there and played along. I even asked him how he could be on the same team as her and not know who she was engaged to. He claimed he had no idea.

Before we continued, I showed Cynthia my wedding photography page and told her to send it to her fiancé if they had not chosen a photographer yet. She said she would add me to their research list.

Then Sunday came.

Ebube opened his phone to show me something, and a message from a contact saved as “Iyawo mi” appeared with Cynthia’s picture.

I looked at the phone. Then I looked at him.

“So... YOU are the fiancé?”

What began as a funny conversation during a church interview eventually led to me photographing their wedding.

Sometimes your clients find you through an inquiry form. Sometimes the groom is sitting right in front of you, pretending to help you find himself. 😂

One month ago today, I married my best friend. 🤍

Also… if you make it to slide 8, you’ll find the marriage license where I confidently wrote my full name instead of my signature. Safe to say I was a little nervous. 😂🤣
