Happy Heavenly Birthday John Vannoy. I wish I could have met you before you passed. More so for you than for me, I suppose. John Vannoy was the train engineer for the Amtrak train that hit me in ‘92. He never spoke publicly about the incident. From what I’m told he disappeared back to his hometown in Florida. I’ve tried to find information about him, but it’s hard to find anything on a man who doesn’t want to be found. I did learn that he was an Orioles fan. And that’s how I’ll forever honor him.

If anyone has connects in Florida, specifically the Auburndale area, let me know. I’d love to try and find more information about one of the men who saved my life.

I remember when our lights would go out on the Rez.
We would all come out of our rooms and gather in the living room. Both couches occupied, some on the floor. Mom would tell stories as we lay there in silence, with only one oil lamp lighting our trailer. Not fictional stories but stories that happened in real life. Family stories. They were always funny stories too.

Those times were the closest we ever felt to another, really. When the power was out. by @cactus.eddie
