I don’t tend to get emotionally invested into a rock climb, but this one was special. F-dude is an 8b+ first ascended by @boonespeed, located on the Blasphemy Wall at the VRG. It’s a link-up of the cruxes of 3 different routes.

The first route/crux is Dude, an 8a+/8b with two, powerful and bouldery sections that terminate into a good rest. The second route is Dark Boy, an 8a, with two distinct undercling and power-edging cruxes that sometimes feel easy and other times feel improbable. The third and final route is Fall of Man, another 8a and, I believe, is the best of its grade in the country. A powerful and techy masterpiece that I first redpointed back in 2009, my first of that grade.

It’s only poetic that I get to close a chapter of my climbing and begin a new one by clipping the same chains of a route I did almost 15 years ago. On to the next one.

Another trip to #mallorca in the books. I spent a year getting ready for this trip and it paid off. I was much more comfortable in the water and the fear while I was above it was easier to suppress. This trip to Mallorca was more about the company than it was for the climbing. Many laughs and close calls were shared. Can’t wait for the next trip!

Uncut beta footy! I’m not @renan_ozturk so don’t expect a cinematographic experience. Neither am I @steghiso, so you’ll have to deal with not hearing his milky sweet voice narrating over some of his next level climbing. I do however have a selfie stick and a camera that I strapped to my back because I was inspired by the incredible work of the two above. I know there are at least two other climbing nerds out there interested in watching an 8 minute beta video about some silly climb here in Washington state. This is for you guys!

One of my favorite moments of the trip. Shaking out on wet jugs and working out a possible sequence. Something I’ve done a thousand times before, but this time there is this tinge of stress of knowing each move adds a bit more hang time towards my plunge into the warm waters of the Balearic Sea.

Best climbing trip I’ve been on. Hands down.

What an intense place to access and experience. Fortunate to have had the whole cavern to ourselves. I would say it’s a must do on my list when visiting Mallorca (even above any types of climbing), but it’s definitely a… complicated venture.
