„Summertime“ occupies a cherished space in my musical journey. Initially, it appeared as a straightforward lullaby, yet its layers unfolded over time, revealing a profound depth. Composed by George Gershwin for the opera *Porgy and Bess*, this piece has become a timeless jazz standard.

Interestingly, „Summertime“ shares a melodic kinship with the Ukrainian lullaby „Oi Khodyt Son Kolo Vikon,“ translated as „The Dream Passes by the Window.“ This traditional lullaby, first published in 1837, has been passed down through generations, embodying themes of warmth, care, and the universal desire for peace and comfort.

This connection invites us to reflect on the subtle power of music to evoke emotions and memories, guiding us toward a place of tranquility and introspection. In a world often filled with noise and haste, such melodies serve as gentle reminders to pause, listen, and reconnect with our inner selves.

In the timeless embrace of music, we often find ourselves lost in the moment, where time becomes irrelevant. Our passion for performing transcends the ticking of the clock, as we immerse ourselves in the art, the audience, and the sheer joy of expression. It’s in these moments that we truly come alive, forgetting the world around us, and simply being present in the music.

“First comes the food, then comes morality.” Weill and Brecht gave us a song that smiles with sharp teeth — seductive, ironic, and disturbingly current.

At Café Metrópolis, we don’t dust off Mackie Messer. We let it breathe — in swing, in rhythm, in full view. Because some songs don’t fade with time.
They sharpen.
