Indigenous Peoples’ Day PHX Fest🪶

I once heard a Native painter say “Native art is art created by Natives.” I thought about that all day.

Our culture isn’t something behind glass. It’s alive, and it’s moving. Traditional and contemporary, elders and youth, all in the same space. Not one or the other. All of it is Native art, because it’s made by us.

Thank you @cahokiaphx for creating this space, and to everyone who shared their gifts:

Ahe’hee Askwali Thank you to everyone who came out for Indigenous Peoples’ Day and showed some love. Your continued love and support means so much

A huge thank you to @cahokiaphx for collaborating with us on live screen printing and creating space for us to be part of this day🪶

Days like these remind me of the power of community. Coming together, creating, celebrating, and supporting one another

This is us taking our land back. It might not be through the same force and displacement used against our people but thru our existence, our creativity, our cultures, our businesses, our communities. By reclaiming our narratives, our ability to be resilient, taking up space, and creating more opportunities for those who come after us .

We are still here. We never left. And there is still so much more to do 🪶 so let’s fokn do it denn 😝

The community is art. INDIGENOUS EXCELLENCE TO THA MOON

w love,
TXYZ

Went on a little walk last night and ended up at the @cahokiaphx Indigenous Peoples Day Festival at @azcenterphx and got to see an amazing performance by @twolipsmusic & @lightfootmusic 🫶🏾🎶🪶
Thank you for educating through your art and music, never seen anything quite like this performance and this doesn’t even capture the half! Check them out!💘

I was born and raised in Arizona but living downtown the last couple years has inspired me to learn more about the O’odham communities indigenous to this land and continue learning about my own roots, something my grandparents always encouraged us to do growing up. They taught us so much about our Garífuna culture through music.💛 I’m also Afro-Latina through my dad’s Mexican heritage, and I love embracing every part of who God created me to be! We are all more than one thing, and our identities tell stories of our ancestors. I encourage you to learn about your roots, too, and never let anyone else tell you who you are! Music and art are powerful ways to connect us to our history and educate the future generations!✨

@azcenterphx always has great things going on and I love to see it🤎

Everyday is Indigenous Peoples’ Day🤎🪶

We had the amazing honor to host the 4th annual IPD PHX Fest Run and Walk with @cahokiaphx @ovah_hillcreations.official and @azcenterphx
It was such a beautiful experience of native pride and strength. I could not help but see how much we shine and bring so much joy to every space we fill. I know this is how our ancestors survived so much, because when we get together nothing stops the laughter, connection and shared love. It was so great to meet so many new runners and finally meet others in person. The running community is so special.
It’s was so great combine a group run with so many indigenous arts and crafts. As our runners picked up bibs and got ready to run we were surrounded by Apache crown dancers and Aztec dancers. It elevated our community movement to another level of indigenous resilience and power.
We had such an awesome event!! Thank you for supporting and participating!

Huge shout out to @tortoiseandharesquad and @altrarunning for supporting, providing and volunteering. We had the coolest bibs, shirts, medals, awards and (soon) photos with their help! Thank you @moccasinrunning for your yearly help! And @native_women_run for sharing our event. And the biggest thank you to my sole sisters and family. We can’t do this without them. Love you!! by @cahokiaphx

Thanks to @cahokiaphx for a great Indigenous Peoples’ Day! The Apache Crown Dance is one of my favorite ceremonial performances, and I was blessed to witness the mountain spirits come to life! Shout out to @azcenterphx for hosting.
