Nobody really wants to watch videos from concerts, but I have to post some of my favorite moments anyways, with a little storytime.

I discovered Josh Groban when I was 12. Girls in my Fundamental Baptist homeschool church circle were passing around CDs of his first two albums after church, taking turns borrowing. It was the first sanctioned non-church music I remember hearing as a teen and somehow became a huge part of my inner life and my friendships in that era. My Mema gave me a box set of his Live at the Greek concert on CD and DVD and I watched that DVD over and over with my friends. I listened to the CD in bed on my portable CD player to go to sleep at night. I named my bird Vincent Van Gogh after Josh Groban's cover of Don McLean's song, and sang the song to him almost daily.

At some point, I grew embarrassed. Gave away my CDs. Made my love for the music a joke. Josh Groban was kind of a punchline and a mile marker for an akward time in my past.

But it turns out it's true that your 30s is the time to reclaim what you loved and who you were as a teenager with no shame and no concern for whether other people think it's cool or not.

In more recent years, Josh Groban has existed in my memory as a kind of nostalgia for my early teens; I knew he was out there doing stuff still, but he was mainly a historical figure in my personal life. But a few times in my 30s, on a particularly rough day, I would turn on Live at The Greek and feel deeply comforted. So. When I kept getting ads saying Josh would be in Denver soon, I realized it was time to fully re-embrace my love for (as Brian calls him) The Grobe.

I grinned like a fool for most of the concert. There's something so surreal about seeing the embodiment of the voice that soothed you to sleep as a troubled teen, that fascinated you and your friends to the point of printing and memorizing Italian lyrics, live and in the flesh. Being surrounded by the sound waves of their actual voice, in person, in real time.

And then he sang Can You Feel the Love Tonight, a song that has always reminded me of my Mema, whom I dearly miss, and I wept.

So. I'm feeling a little old, a lot nostalgic, and very grateful. by @caitijo89
