POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Only one more week until Book 2!!!

"Caitlin Sangster's latest novel is her most ambitious book yet. She Who Rides the Storm is a tightly-woven fantasy heist with memorable characters and a killer premise." - Brandon Sanderson (@brandsanderson)

"Ghosts. Tombs. Betrayals. With multiple unfolding mysteries, and complex and varied magics, She Who Rides the Storm digs right into a new, imaginative world, leading the reader deeper into the history--and the truth--of a divided land. Nothing is what it seems." -Jodi Meadow (@unicornwarlord )

Long ago, shapeshifting monsters ruled the Commonwealth using blasphemous magic that fed on the souls of their subjects. Now, hundreds of years later, a new tomb has been uncovered, and despite the legends that disturbing a shapeshifter’s final resting place will wake them once again, the Warlord is determined to dig it up.

But it isn’t just the Warlord who means to brave the traps and pitfalls guarding the crypt.

A healer obsessed with tracking down the man who murdered her twin brother.

A runaway member of the Warlord’s Devoted order, haunted by his sister’s ghost.

A snotty archaeologist bent on finding the cure to his magical wasting disease.

A girl desperate to escape the cloistered life she didn’t choose.

All four are out to steal the same cursed sword rumored to be at the very bottom of the tomb. But of course, some treasures should never see the light of day, and some secrets are best left buried…

It’s been almost two months since Dead Moon Rising finished off the Last Star Burning series!! Writing these books is one of the things I’m most proud of accomplishing this decade (professionally anyway!) What are you most proud to have accomplished?

Mood reads for October!!! Spooky books are my favorite this time of year. If you haven’t picked up A Baker’s Guide to Robber Pie yet and happen to like whimsically creepy, fairytaleish middle grade, it is the correct season. Magical crow creatures that do their best to trick you out of anything good, robbers in the old forest who steal little girls and wagon wheels, and adults who Never Listen so our intrepid hero Evie has to save everyone herself.

(There’s a hefty dose of warm kitchen, fabulous breaking, and tarts. All the raspberry tarts.)

Guess what! I'm moving! Headed back to Montana with my family (yay!) including my delightful children, who are now old enough to pack their own things (and burninate the peasants).

This is the empty version of something really cool. Yesterday, this place was full of kids learning how to write. I don’t want to accidentally post pictures of kids on the interwebs, so you get the pristine, ghost town version of the tween area of StoryCon and the backs of some heads.

I’ve been working with some amazing people to plan the Tween part of StoryCon for months. All of the ladies on the committee are WAY more organized than I am (I didn't even take a picture with us together!!) I’m not sure why they let me be in charge (even now, I’m like, have you MET me? I can barely get my own dishes done) they did so much of the heavy lifting at this conference.

We had the most amazing group of teachers!! the kids got so excited about the opening ceremony where we had a villain kidnap our keynote speaker that they tried use their programs to take out the villain between classes even though she was just trying to get them to the correct classroom.

Jennifer Nielson and Margaret Peterson Haddix, our two keynotes, were so lovely to play along with our game, then each gave wonderful thoughts about writing (and brainstormed with the kids about turtle farts).

To everyone who encouraged their kids to come, thank you. To everyone who donated funding for scholarships to allow so many kids who wouldn’t have been able to come otherwise, thank you. To all the volunteers who made it possible (and stayed so late to help build the castle) thank you!!!

My heart is full. This was an amazing event to be a part of!

Finally got to meet Ayana Gray in person, and what a lovely person she is. StoryCon has been one giant whirlwind, but I’m really glad I got to stop for a second to say hi because she was one of the authors I was most looking forward to!!

Pretty funny to be waiting for my flight the day after Dragonsteel. Half the passengers have matching Dragonsteel merch bags. Little chull plushies abound.

Didn’t want to be too much of a creeper, so you only get to see two.

Day one of Dragonsteel Nexus is done!! Super fun, got to meet lots of cool people, got to see friends I’ve missed, and people who come find me every year (yes, I’m still working on my next book, yes, it’s taking forever!! Thank you for coming back to check for new books and say hi).

It’s really cool to be with so many avid readers in one place!

Yummy Taiwanese food for my birthday at @taipeicafe.us !!!

Brought me back to my Kaohsiung days. Are there moments in your life that smells, music, even the temperature bring back? Fall, my favorite season, that first chill, that wet, dusky smell makes me nervous because that’s when school started haha.

Beef noodles remind me of riding my bike along the Love River, almost being taken out by mopeds and garbage trucks, hot, hot afternoons, storms coming in like an advancing army, being terrible at Mandarin but people being so nice to me for doing my best, and fruit ice.

Wish I could go back, but this was a nice stopgap until I can go. by @caitsangster
