This week we had the joy and excitement of working on this 17 tier super cake. It was magical to walk into the captivating floral decor of @springbankflowers. It was so cool to see all these luxurious specialists come together to create a wedding wonderland. @redcarpeteventsuk @g6mediauk @evallanceuk @djharpz @angelicdesserts @douxcine @themereresort

Hey lovely Cake Couture community, we hope you are safe, well and calm. 💗 Tell us, what is your silver lining in all of this? Ours is that we have finally got TIME to edit the tutorials. We're using a video editor and heck has it taken some serious work, cropping the rambling and long pauses, aligning the audio perfectly with the video, making some clear visuals between scenes. But we've given ourselves a deadline - 10th April. 😅 Please, give us all your positivity. What is good about today? What good has come from this situation? A moment of gratitude please. Sending positive vibes and wishing you well. ♡ taken in Cake Couture by @cakecoutureuk

Hey everyone, hope all is as well as it can be. ♡ Here's one we 'made earlier!' 😉 For this base decoration, we used 'Fretwork Flower Cutters' by Stephen Benison. We got ours at the @thecakeshows by Cake International but you can buy them directly on his website for just £5.50. To make our life a bit easier, we cut ours out and then left them to dry over a dummy tipped on its side (same size as the cake they'd be going on). We waited until they were firm but ever so slightly bendy to apply them. We applied them with edible glue and a touch of royal icing, and yes, we used up all our fingers holding them on to dry! ⁣⁣⁣The pearl line on the top tier is a blue mould with a selection of flowery options on it. It's by Windsor and available from Vanilla Valley. ♡ taken in Cake Couture by @cakecoutureuk

Time | Every cloud has a silver lining and as I read in a post this morning, the words 'worried sick' are placed together for a reason. Guys, we're all worried, there's no denying that you know what will affect the wedding industry massively amongst others. But as we move towards self isolation, let's try not to worry ourselves, let's try to embrace something which is still available to all of us: the luxury of TIME. How often do we say to ourselves and others, "I just haven't had the time to..." Well this is it! Surrender to the situation (for your mental health and wellbeing) and turn your attention within. I (Lyd) have been on lockdown in Spain for over a week now, things escalated very quickly, from joking about it to everything being closed over night. And what I can share with those of you who are just going into it, is that this is something stronger than us, so we must just ride the storm with acceptance. I suggest you start writing a list of all those things you have always wanted to do. Get that sewing machine out, clear out the wardrobe, read all those beautiful books you bought with your hard earned cash, dust off the board games and bond with the family. I know, it seems romanticised. Yes, of course there will be days of low moral and frustration but practicing gratitude for this gift of time will help you through it. Cycles of productivity, rest, the joy of creativity and of course a bit of procrastination - who cares - time is on your side for once. This is your moment to work on yourself, or your business, to make great plans for the months to come. Sending you love and hope. You've got this. ♡ taken in Cake Couture by @cakecoutureuk

Hey everyone, we just wanted to share a recent design my mother Susan made. These cakes are really popular for birthdays and anniversaries. We've always been a massive fan of @karen_davies_sugarcraft moulds so if you swipe sideways you'll see what mould we used for this. How is everyone? Anyone nervous about future plans and you know what? Or are we keeping cool, calm and collected? We'll try to help pass the time for those who are self isolating by bringing you some short videos with tips. So please tell us below what you'd like to see? What never works? What tools do you need to know about? What do you struggle with? When do you find yourself thinking 'there must be an easier way to do this!'... Let us know. Sending love and positive vibes. taken in Cake Couture by @cakecoutureuk

Hello community, so it's been a while, right? Indeed. The truth is, life just took over a little, many things really. Last year we said good bye to my mum's uncle, Uncle Des. The family is small and it really hit us hard. He's so deeply missed every day. We also had some other personal issues going on which I won't go into deeply and you know, it's life right? People everywhere are going through all kinds of battles. I (Lyd) had a bit of burnout with social media in general and each time I went home it was becoming all cakes and there was less time to just 'be' with my mum, plus then going home became about taking care of dear Uncle Des... In other news my sister gave birth on Christmas day, so Susan McEvoy became a grandmother and we're all finding a balance as we fit into new roles, my sister as mother, myself as aunty and my mum as a Nana Susan or who knows maybe Grandma Susan - haven't actually checked which title she wants yet. I think the Christmas day birth was Uncle Dessie's sense of humour to distract us on what would have been a very sad day... In sharing this with you, I suppose my intention was to say that we're still here, we still think about you, we have been reading many of your messages although we took big chunks of time offline. And importantly, I we wanted to show an authentic and vulnerable side, because it isn't always perfect cakes and smooth sailing. Cakes go wrong and 'sh*t hits the fan' sometimes and that's ok. I hope this can serve the community and show others, going through whatever struggles they may be facing that there is a way out of life's chaos and sadness (in our case we were blessed to welcome little baby Gabriel into the world) and just to take a breath and time out when you need it. Social media offers an incredible platform, you guys do not know how much you have lifted mum in difficult times, but I think it's also fair to say that to deliver good quality social content, energy is required. And it's the kind of energy that flows out easily, just like you can't solve writer's block, you just need to wait. So I think that's what we have been doing, just taking some time off and waiting for the storm to pass. Much love ♡ by @cakecoutureuk

Ahh simplicity! We can't get enough of this mould by Marvelous Moulds available from @the_cake_decorating_co and the line mould is by @wilton_uk.⁣

P.S this batch of photos is a little grey, we literally placed them right in front of the window but Jan's weather was so grim! 😅 taken in Cake Couture by @cakecoutureuk

Throwback to our collection shoots! Since we changed the shop around to host our tuition, we no longer have our charming desk or patterned wall to do group shoots. Let us know if you want to see more like these and we'll see what we can do! ⁣⁣⁣

A close up of the fantastical flowers which we made using the Stephen Benison stencil set. You can buy the Fabric Flower stencils on his website for £17.98 or the full set with a few extras for £23. We used a little Trex before rolling on the stencils and we also used a normal rose petal cutter to cut them out because we didn't have time to cut round them individually with a scalpel. What are your views? Do you prefer realistic looking flowers or do you enjoy the occasional fanciful treat?⁣

Here's the bow cake that we showed a close up of recently. We just love working with moulds, how things have changed since we started all those years ago... Now it's easier than ever to achieve perfect forms, that said, they can still be temperamental and get damaged during extraction. We get many questions about moulds, lace and lustre which is why we have created a course on exactly these techniques. It will take place on Sunday 3rd March and we can not wait! Susan has so many life saving tips for working with these techniques, like how to speed up the process, how to add stunning colour to lace, how to apply them to the cake, how to make your lustre flawless, and so on. If you'd like to secure your space, go ahead and book on our website, you can pay just a 50% deposit. ⁣
⁣
⁣
By the way, these stunning edible glitter (white squares) is by CK products available either from @evilcakegenius or @the_cake_decorating_co depending on where you are based.⁣

Sometimes less is more. For anyone who is new to the Cake Couture community, most of the cakes on here are done specifically for our photo shoots, to share designs and tips. Our real cakes are assembled on set and we rarely have time to photograph them plus we like to keep the Insta background similar. If you have any questions about our photo shoots, feel free to ask below!⁣⁣
