“Calvin, what’s next?! What’s next?!”

Well, I can FINALLY tell you! I’m returning to @jubileetheatre next year with TWO original works!

If you caught @biggerplay during my @artsmission residency, that waiting room is getting a full production! I’ve been digging back into the script, and the work is richer, bolder, and even more honest. I hoped this story would have a life beyond the residency. I never imagined its next chapter would come this quickly or that I’d get to share it with my Jubilee family. 🥹

And if you enjoyed my “Black Nativity” at Bishop Arts last year, it’s coming back with a new name: “Love Is a Miracle!” I’m writing two new songs for the production, and I can’t wait to get back onstage with my family and share this show with you next Christmas season.

Two stories I wrote. A theatre I call home. A whole lot of gratitude.

We just hit 10% of our film, Spent Token’s campaign goal! 🥹🥹🥹

I’m not gonna lie, I had no clue where that first dollar was gonna come from 😂 but this journey has been such a great learning experience.

And I apologize to the ones I came in too hot and eager with at the beginning. I was still getting my messaging down lol we can still chat though 😅

This short film, I Care About You… But, is the first time Spent Token’s attached director, @caldirects and I had the opportunity to work together from script to screen.

It was such a wonderful experience that taught me so much as a screenwriter and filmmaker. I look forward to replicating this kind of magic soon ✨ by @caldirects

Tonight was the first preview of “I’ll Be Damned If” at my theatre home, @jubileetheatre. ❤️

This is my first time working on the world premiere of a play by another playwright, the wonderful @cheriemoniqueamour, and it has been such a singular experience. It almost feels like directing the pilot of a television show - helping figure out the world, the rhythm, the rules, and all the little things that will live with the story beyond this production.

I’m so proud of this cast and creative team and the work we’ve done to bring this world to life.

And a huge thank you to the best AD in all the land, my babygirl, Melody. ❤️

“Oh, goodness. Calvin is announcing yet another feature. Ain’t this the fifth one he’s told us about in the last ten years?”

Yep. It is. 😂

But I think this one is actually going to go.

I’ve announced plenty of projects that never made it to the screen. The truth is, I have never wanted to put out half-baked work just for the sake of saying I made something. If I’m going to ask people to watch it, support it, or attach their names to it, I want it to be good. I want it to be something we can all be proud of.

And I truly believe Spent Token can be that.

This will be my first feature film, and I am incredibly excited to make it alongside my brothers @lafthevessel and @a.neely . Spent Token is a funny, uncomfortable, timely story about a struggling Black content creator who discovers that performing anti-Blackness online is profitable. The attention starts coming. The money starts coming. And then the character he created begins to swallow the man who created it.

Now, we need your help getting it made.

We’ve officially launched our crowdfunding campaign. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps us move one step closer to production. And if giving isn’t possible right now, sharing the campaign with your people helps more than you know.

And listen, if you don’t want to support the arts, fine. At least come get this tax write-off. 😂

So yes, Calvin is announcing another feature project.

But this time, I really believe you’re going to see it.

Yet another gift from 2026.

I never imagined my work would be housed in a theatre’s library. And today… 🥹

A huge thank you to @callmyname_alejandro and everyone at @circletheatre for valuing my words, believing in my work, and inviting me to contribute to your collection.

That invitation led me to assemble my first collection of short plays, “Witness.”

So my car battery died on the way to Lubbock today and I ended up sitting on the side of the road for 75 minutes. 🙃

I’ve been trying to figure out what I’m supposed to write next and, quite literally, asking for a sign.

At some point while I was waiting, I grabbed my old “bigger” rehearsal binder because I remembered there were some blank pages in the back.

And…I started writing the new play.

Four handwritten pages.

There’s something really poetic about starting the new thing on the pages of the last thing. That feels reeeeaaal signy. 😂

This is the proper continuation of my work. I’m writing another full play. 😩 This time, I’m not quite as scared.

Anyway…four pages down. ❤️

PS Yes, I’m off the side of the road. 🙌🏾
