POSTS STORIES REELS
I’m permanently moving to New Orleans, Louisiana!

And I have to admit, I’ve been putting this off because I don’t know how to encapsulate 5 years of my life into an Instagram caption. But I have 4 days left until I move, so here’s what I’ll try to say:

I joke frequently that I didn’t gain consciousness until I was in college, but I think what I really mean, is that I had never truly felt alive.

Because, “It takes a long time to realize how truly miserable you are, and even longer to see it doesn’t have to be that way. Only after you give up everything can you begin to find a way to be happy.”

So I moved to Phoenix, and it took my empty heart and empty soul and poured everything it had into it. I went from having no place and being nobody in this world to being somebody’s 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨. Whether it was as a roommate, or peer, or friend, or filmmaker. I gave up everything I had and Phoenix made me become 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺 when I was 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨. And I can never, forget that.

In the past 5 years, I have found that everything that I am, is everything that I should be. And that what I am to become, is something more than I can ever plan for.

Alas, time moves forward, and we learn how to take care of our car, we learn that our college degree is probably useless, our friendships are now something we have to put on the calendar, and we come to recognize that no matter how we feel, it will never be the same again. Because that’s life!

Life doesn’t “move on”, it just moves forward. At the end of this week I could move across the country, shut it all out, throw out all my films, and move 𝘰𝘯. Or, I could move 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥, and still have everything Phoenix has given me.

So, I: Thank you Student Engagement, Thank you Willow 602, Thank you GCU, Thank you Lip Sync Battle, Thank you MJ Canyon, Thank you sand dunes, Thank you C West, Thank you AZ networking events, Thank you ASU friends, Thank you Emilie & Izzy, Thank you Space Age, Thank you CANT, Thank you Goodyear, Thank you Dutch Bros, Thank you Celebrity Dance, Thank you 643, and Thank you, Arizona.

Phoenix, you may not always be my home. But Phoenix community, you will always be where home 𝘪𝘴. by @cale_jayden

“Sonder” — The profound realization that every random passerby is living a life as vivid, complex, and emotionally deep as your own. When we one day come across this awareness, what do we do with it and how can we take the steps to truly see others? Every year I’m baffled at what a random team of filmmakers and dancers can put together in a single day of summer, but we do it every time!

It’s that time of a year for my annual Dance Film😮‍💨 See you Friday! #dancefilm #dancefilms #dancechoreography #independentfilm #conceptvideo by @cale_jayden
Last week: I got to see the original 1922 silent film Nosferatu with a live orchestra. Last year: I saw the original 1931 Frankenstein with a live orchestra playing an entirely ORIGINAL score. Next year: Alongside the help of Versipel New Music, I will get to watch my OWN short documentary play with OUR original classical contemporary score by Malcolm Parson and the Versipel Collective. All because of the inspiration of the @neworleansfilmsociety and @lpomusic collaboration. I’m at a point where I truly don’t know what each day brings me and I am beyond grateful! by @cale_jayden
We understood the assignment. The professor just didn’t give us a grade yet - that’s for you to do at the premiere 😋 . . . #MyDreamHasThorns #MDHT #NewOrleansArts #DocumentaryFilm #IndependentFilm by @cale_jayden
In honor of the workers and creatives who often get lost in the midst of titles and credits, this post is dedicated to the PAs, grips, BTS, and other heroes who took on multiple roles to make this set happen! They’re the true magic behind a production like this and a huge reason we were able to spend time crafting specific shots rather than rushing through the day. There is not enough gratitude in the world to thank you for the service you did our team. Thank you!

12 hours. 7 entirely different setups. Programmed spotlights. Stained glass-inspired lights. Dana dolly, gimbal, tripod, and shoulder mount. Rows of chairs staged for an entire audience. Completely different costumes, hair, and makeup for every setup. Our crew of just 15 did it all in one day. That’s what eight months of pre-production and a crew full of passion can accomplish. We’re beyond excited for you to see the blend of documentary and music video we’re bringing to life. . . . 📸: @stellrjay . . . #MyDreamHasThorns #MDHT #NewOrleansArts #DocumentaryFilm #IndependentFilm by @cale_jayden
Last Saturday, we had the pleasure and honor of hearing the life story of Jakki Kalogridis, the storyteller at the heart of this documentary. In just under 4.5 hours, Cale and Johanna heard everything from her childhood to today, including how Jakki believes, “I was born an artist; survival is just part of my artistry.” We know the courage it takes to be as vulnerable as Jakki was, so thank you, Jakki, for being so open and honest in sharing your story with artists of all disciplines! . . . 📸: @firefacefilms . . . #MyDreamHasThorns #MDHT #NewOrleansArts #DocumentaryFilm #IndependentFilm by @cale_jayden

Our Director, Producer, Editor (mad?) genius behind it all finally gets to the bottom of the question “Is your art worth the life you sacrifice for it?”   Interested in hearing the full conversation?
