Today marks one year that I lost my best friend, my brother. Over the year I have found peace and stability that I know that Davey is up in heaven smiling down on every second of the day. My brother was the most genuine, hardworking and most disciplined human I have ever met. It was a privilege to step on the same earth as him.As I reflect on this year I see a lot of pain, suffering and grief. At the same time I have peace that makes no sense. Peace that cannot be taken from me. Davey sustained a traumatic brain injury during a boxing match on April 9th, 2024. On April 14th, one year ago today he entered the gates of heaven. Davey loved boxing. He would come home every day from work and I would ask him everyday after dinner, “where you going Dave”. He would say, “I’m sucking going to boxing pal, see yuh later shmuck”. I would always think about that night when Davey said that. What if I went with him…would things be different, would this not have ever happened? All I can live with is that he never has to suffer anymore. Davey never has to be worried or be in pain anymore. I know Davey is living his best life up in heaven and would not look back for a second. I want to honor Davey and make every promise I said to him that night in the hospital true. That phone call on the 9th changed my life forever and I will never be the same without my brother.I know that he lived a short life but a fulfilled one. I want to live my life for him and make every second worth it. Every thing Davey left behind in life is my responsibility to pick up and honor and make him proud. I wanna thank Davey for being the best brother I could have ever had. He was the only one who knew I could do it. I will forever cherish all the time we had and how much our personalities and jokes matched up. So I want to thank Davey for all the times we had with each other. I will always remember you, love you bro, I hope you’re ripping that m3 up there🫶. by @caleb.steck

It’s been a little over a month now since you have been gone. I have been trying to find the courage to speak on this. Davey your passing has killed me inside. Losing you, my only brother, has shattered me. I will forever cherish the bond we shared and the inspiration you were to me. Everything I did was to impress you. Life feels empty without you, and I struggle to find purpose knowing you’re no longer with us. I had hoped you would recover, as your strength, both mental and physical, was stronger than any of us. We had many trials together, which only strengthened our bond. I miss our laughter, our talks, and your presence. You were not just my brother but also my best friend and protector. Your love and joy touched everyone around you, and your passing leaves a hole that can never be filled. I find it hard to accept that you’re gone, and I pray for peace every night. I promise to honor your legacy in everything I do. I will never be the same without you, Davey. The moment you went into surgery, my heart dropped. I have never been picked back up. Every day I think of you. Every day I wake up wishing I get a call from you, knowing the phone will never pick up. Every day I wake up looking at the stairs, waiting for you to walk up. I wake up every day wishing you were here. I just want one more laugh, Davey, just one more. I’m sorry this happened to you. You were going to be great in life. This has been the hardest chapter in my life. I am forever changed. I will forever protect your name as you protected mine. I made you many promises Davey, and I will live up to every single one of them. The verse on your arm, “My grace is sufficient for you: my strength is made perfect in weakness,” was not meant for you Davey. It was meant for us, to know we must have peace in hard times. Peace that makes no sense. You walked through life by that verse and now I have to live by it. I don’t know how I will be able to move on. All I know is that I have my brother on my shoulder at all times and that will get me through this. I love you, Davey, and you will never be forgotten, I will see you again at the gates of Heaven. by @caleb.steck
