We are not our stories, but our stories shape how we show up in the world.

My professional path did not follow a straight line.

My background was in the nonprofit sector. I entered commercial real estate almost by accident, then grew to love the work and the people I had the opportunity to serve.

For a long time, professionals were taught to lead with credentials and leave the personal parts out.

But credentials tell people what you have done.

Your story helps them understand why it matters to you.

Communicating your story is not about turning every hardship or milestone into content. It is about helping people understand the experiences, values, and decisions behind your work.

That context creates connection.

It also gives the right people a reason to trust your perspective before they ever sit across the table from you.

Your story does not weaken your expertise.

It gives your expertise meaning.

Imposter syndrome does not always mean you are unqualified.

Sometimes, it means you are growing.

The first time you share your perspective online, host a podcast, lead a team, or walk into a bigger opportunity, you may question whether you belong there.

I have felt that tension too.

The instinct is to wait until you feel more confident, more polished, or more prepared.

But confidence is rarely the starting point.

It is often the result of taking action before you feel completely ready.

You do not overcome imposter syndrome by pretending to be someone else. You move through it by remembering what you know, why you serve, and the experiences that brought you here.

Then you take the next honest step.

Your voice does not need to sound like everyone else's to be valuable.

It needs to sound like yours.

What opportunity would you pursue if you stopped waiting to feel completely ready?

Back in Istanbul. Not planned.

@turkishairlines did not notify us or inform us in any way shape or form when we booked our tickets or before we checked in at Entebbe, Uganda that we would have to be re-routed due to required Ebola screening at one of three US airports instead of the tickets that we bought and paid for.

We sat on the runway in Uganda due to weather for a good 3 hours with no communication from the pilot or flight attendants.

By the time we landed in Turkey, any and all options of getting on a plane today disappeared. The airline staff I interacted with were rude and borderline hostile. Not a good experience at all. Love this city, but unless @turkishairlines makes an effort to make things right, will be avoiding them in the future.
