I’ve always loved the feeling of an empty home, a rare mix of grief, potential, and overwhelming busy-ness that we encounter so rarely… maybe that’s why I’ve moved so often in my life. And it’s definitely why I’m so grateful to Maral for having me over to make some images together, less than 24 hours before she flew across the country for good, July 15th, 2026.

Some of my oldest memories as an artist (back in my cut-n-paste zine days) are digging through boxes of old postcards in thrift shops, falling in love with the sepia-toned and hand-tinted portraits, and dreaming of seeing the world. It wasn’t even my intention to harken back to that aesthetic when I asked Princess Danella, with her incredible sense and knowledge of style, to collaborate, but I was glad to find it in these images we made, a little outside my usual vibe. May 26th, 2026.

Shout out to fashionable_filipinas for keeping an amazing archive of images both old and new, especially the kind of postcard portraits (slides 3 and 6) that formed the bulk of research for this shoot. If you know of any other accounts like this, please send my way!!
