… at least that’s what I tell myself every time I’m working on a new gold painting. The reflective quality of the paint really is a pain the butt for my eyes. It’s just impossible to really get an idea of how the painting is turning out unless I stand back and change lighting and walk around it. But it’s always worth it in the end. It’s been a great year sharing my art with y’all and I’m not even done yet. Thanks for sticking with me over the last few years and following my journey. So much good stuff to come in the new years. I think I’m going to be putting even more of my focus into paintings (over drawings). I’m also looking into other options for prints and how to create prints that actually have the shiny gold in the prints. Gilded Pillar II has already been claimed! But the first is still available (that’s the one on the wall! My favorite thing about these pieces is the way the light catches the gold paint and reflects an aura! There’s also something I really love about these tall narrow canvases; it’s kind of grounding working within these constraints. The tall narrow frame forces the figure to almost stretch and hold itself differently. taken in San Francisco, California by @caleleroy

NOW AVAILABLE! My newest original painting that I just completed last weekend, Gilded Pillar II is now available (as well as Gilded Pillar I). After finishing the first Gilded Pillar painting I knew that I wanted to make another (I even named the first with ‘1’ in the name). So this continues my exploration into making the human form into a more structural shape. The tall narrow shape of the canvas proportions changes the way the figure reads. It starts to feel more like a presence than a painting and that was the feeling I wanted to revisit.

In this painting I added loosely draped fabric around the waist and lower body. I love the way fabric turns out in these paintings as it feels like it softens the entire image. The folds of the fabric brings a movement and slightly ethereal quality. taken in San Francisco, California by @caleleroy

Some paintings stick with you. This one has really stuck with me since I created it. This painting reminded me how much I love drawing loose fabric. Drawing fabric is a common exercise in many art classes and I remember getting super into it in college. Now many years later I’m back into it and plan to do more art with loosely draped fabric in the same way that this painting depicts. Prints are NOW AVAILABLE for my most recent (and very green) painting called Afterimage. I started a new print shop last year because the company I used to use was toxic af and taking advantage of their artists who had sunk too much time into their platform to leave. If you do get a print from my new shop please let me know what you think of the quality.
