Over 4000 years old and it still hits today! Betrayal, magic, love, and revenge. The world may look different than it used to, but humans still feel many of the same things and our stories are filled with similar threads.

A throwback to my honeymoon! The Temple of Apollo sits unfinished, but it's still a magical place (even if it's technically just a large door frame). And it only gets that much better when you catch a sunrise or sunset through it!

It feels more like fantasy than real life to see the size of the marble blocks ancient people shaped and carried across the island of Naxos.

He outsmarted death twice, but there's no outsmarting a rock.

What's your favorite ancient myth?

Have you heard of the story of Gilgamesh?

He was thought to have been a real King of Uruk. The legend of Gilgamesh is among the oldest works of literature, rooted in Sumerian poems over 4000 years old.

Twelve Babylonian tablets of the story were discovered in the 19th century. Sadly significant chunks of the story are missing, but one could imagine what else Gilgamesh could get up to.

The oldest hero's journey ever written and it feels like a fantasy novel I'd read, but one that was thought to have been history.

Ephesus! It's been too long since I last visited and I'm sure a lot more has been uncovered by the excavation team since then.

An ancient city that lies along the western coast of modern Türkiye. Founded in the 10th century BCE, Ephesus was a major city in the ancient world and changed hands many times.

It's said that an oracle led Androklos to the site where Ephesus was to be built.

Artemis was the original patron goddess of the city, and the Temple of Artemis built here was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World (sadly not with us any longer).

As Rome took hold, Ephesus entered its golden age and became the second largest city in the empire at its peak.

Karath is an island that sits at the edge of the known world, isolated from the events of my stories but filled with many of its own.

Which of these two maps do you prefer?

The tools and weapons made by the ancients defined us.

Though tin supplies were the biggest hurdle, bronze was easy to work with. It was forgiving and could produce consistent results.

Iron was more abundant but required higher temperature furnaces and more skilled craftsmen Once that knowledge spread enough iron became the easy choice.

With either metal, humanity still did the same as before: farming and fighting. But iron broke the dependency on tin, putting those tools and weapons in more hands.

The Temple of Demeter sits in the heart of Naxos. If you are ever on the island I'd suggest checking it out! The temple was dedicated to the goddess around 530 BC. It is a precursor to the Parthenon's style and was repurposed into a church around the 6th century AD.

Started writing ancient epic fantasy and thought I'd share! I'm hoping my stories are close to as interesting as the real ancients were. Expect a mix of history and mythology from the real world and the one I'm building. Follow along.
