⸸ Carpenter Brut ⸸
Chicago 4.11.26 &
Nashville 4.22.26

Double roadtripping to see Brut.
Got to see several friends I only see at shows away from home. Chicago was sick, as always. Huge rowdy crowd, lots of surfing.
Both shows sold out! Both venues really cool.
Nashville was awesome. I kicked off the crowd surfing there.
After the show, I chatted with Franck for a half hour. Had him sign a couple records and I had the box office print me a physical ticket, so I could get it signed too.

GosT PosT - Holy shit.
I took a few days to process. I’m still in disbelief. My heart aches.
I got to know James over the last decade, traveling around to catch him perform anytime he was within a 5 hour drive from me. I was at the very first Carpenter Brut headlining show in Chicago (2016) with Gost opening, - Gost's harddrive crashed after just 2 songs. A random incident, a decade old memory that is still talked about. I didn't get to meet him that night - I didn't know what he looked like without the mask. But I did ask around.
I first got to meet him the next year in 2017, when he came to my city, opening for some terrible band at a strip club, it was an odd pairing. I was obviously the only person there to see him, and now I knew what he looked like. I got there early, found him sitting alone at the bar. I walked right up to him and said, I'm here to see you, and offered to buy him a drink. He accepted, Crown Royal. I told him I was at that Brut show in Chicago, we agreed that was fucked up. We had a few drinks while talking at the bar and I told him I was going out to smoke. To my surprise he joined me outside. He wanted to continue talking. We hung out for an hour, took a few photos, chatting the whole time, leading up to his turn to take the stage. Great show. Afterwards, I asked to get a pic with him wearing the mask. So glad I did.
I continued traveling around to see him perform. I witnessed every iteration of his stage personas and his music evolution, which was many! I saw him share stages with Perturbator, Dance With the Dead, and technically Carpenter Brut. As well as him open for bands I had no interest seeing. I also caught him fronting his own headlining shows. Once I drove 2 hours to see him play at an outside metal fest, I made it all the way there, and he canceled for illness. I wasn't mad... Just a bunch of driving. I did get to tell him about it the next time we met up.

Happy 78th Birthday Lloyd Kaufman! (yesterday)
I've had the great pleasure of meeting him several times.
He always signs and does photos for free! Truly a pioneer in schlock film. One of a kind.
Long Live Lloyd, Long Live Troma!

🇹🇭🇪 🇪🇽🇴🇷🇨🇮🇸🇹premiered 50 years ago today in 1973. People lined up the day after Christmas, around the block for weeks! There had been nothing like it before.
A masterpiece in horror and my favorite.
Perfect for tonight's full moon.

I was in the middle of dressing my mannequin like this when the news came. I watched Big Adventure and The Pee-wee Herman Show over the weekend, and Big Top Pee-wee last week. Maybe my intuition knew?

Thank you for being an indelible influence and bringing me great joy with everything you did. Thanks for inviting me into your Playhouse.
Off to your next big adventure.
You will be forever missed.
Goodbye Genius.
RIP Paul Reubens.
Au Revoir Pee-wee.
Your pal, Caligula

Cool and smart guy. His controllers and gear are brilliant and handmade. Like Tetsuo the Iron Man meets Deftones.
