3 years: And here are some things I’ve learned. 🧚🏽✨It’s wild to think how fast time goes by. My loc journey has taught me a lot, but here are the main things that pop up when I think about it.Your loc journey is YOUR loc journey. If you want to start them yourself, professionally, instant locs, crochet…do you! When it comes to products, less is more…at least for me. I see so many loc videos where so much product is being applied and I’m just like, how do they not get build up?? Speaking of build up, I experienced that once in my journey and never again. 😭 And yes, it was from using too much product.That comes to why I strictly use water based products and oil…rarely gel.Water is your bestie, especially aloe vera water. Wrap your hair every single night & avoid clothing that’ll cause lint to get into your locs. I wear a satin scar 90% of the time at home.Don’t do too much! Please, don’t do any tight styles, don’t retwist too often (I do ‘soft’ retwists to keep my locs thick), try your best to let your hair just be (although I broke that rule and ended up cutting my wispy ends at the beginning…no regrets 😉)Stop comparing your journey to others. It takes the joy out of your own and most the time, your locs will look nothing like your loc inspos.Be patient. You will experience so many different stages in the short span of 2 years. Slow down and take it in cuz it goes by fast.And if you start to feel discouraged during your journey, believe me when I tell you to stick it through…that starter phase was a phase but now I am obsessed with how my locs look and am so satisfied with how they turned out once they matured. Oh and most importantly, wash your hair! don’t go weeks or months without washing your hair…idk who made up that rule but I wash weekly/by-weekly.
