After 15 years I closed the sweetest chapter of my life. For as long as I can remember, dance has always been an escape for me. It taught me discipline, confidence, resilience and how to keep going when things got hard. I wish I never took the countless hours in the studio, the late nights and early mornings at competitions, sore muscles, bruised knees, happy tears, and memories that will stay with me forever, for granted. Dance has been with me through every stage of my life, and honestly has been one of the only constants in my life, it has given me beautiful friendships, unforgettable performances, and a place where I could truly be myself. One of my favorite memories I have is the moments with my girls dancing backstage to get the nerves away before going on stage, and praying with them before to give us the strength to give it our all. It’s so difficult to put into words what it feels like to walk away from something that has shaped me for so many years, but I am BEYOND grateful for every lesson, every challenge, every bruised knee, and every moment.
Thank you to my family for the endless support you have given me through my journey, especially my grandma who has been at every competition, took me to and from practices every week, and all of the tears shed for how proud of me she was. Thank you to my incredible teachers for always believing in me. Thank you to my best friends for making this journey unforgettable, and so special. I love you girls with all my heart and will cherish all of our memories made for the rest of my life. It is so bittersweet to say goodbye to this part of my life, but I will carry these memories and lessons with me to the next chapter of my life. Heaven gained the most beautiful soul yesterday. Grandpa Harold was one of the most amazing men I’ve had the privilege to know. He could make you laugh even on your worst day. He told his goofy dad jokes all the time, even if it was the same one every time. My favorite was, “Why couldn’t the bicycle make it up the hill? Because he was two tired.” He gave the best hugs and would always say, “That’s the best hug I’ve had all day.” He bought me “ooies” (our word for Lifesaver gummies) and made sure I always had them, that was our thing when I was little. I’ll forever cherish going to the workshop with him and digging through his tiny drawers full of trinkets, while we talked about anything and everything. I’ll always miss our car rides to school, talking about what I want to do in the future and him giving me the best advice. My grandpa had the biggest heart. He never failed to make me feel loved and always told me he was proud of me and that I was going to do big things. He was a social butterfly who could make a friend anywhere, even at a gas station. Heaven is beyond lucky to have him. I’m so grateful for the time I had with him, but he will be deeply missed. Grandpa, I hope you’re up there telling all your silly jokes. I feel blessed knowing you’re watching over me. We love and miss you so much.
