🎃Build a pumpkin sensory play

Swipe to the end to see the most sweetest smile you'll ever see!

I absolutely adore this book, I couldn't wait to incorporate it into this sensory play.
The story is simple and the illustrations are gorgeous!
Definitely going to be a staple in our Halloween book line up.

🐝 BEE stamp 🐝

Easy & simple fine motor activity.
Stamps are so fun and magical.

This might have been a bit to advanced for Julian. Or maybe he just wasn't interested. Lol.
He had a lot more fun putting his fingers in the ink. 🙃

🐞 Bug Playdoh Fossils 🐞

Love quick and easy set ups!
I decided to extend the bug and playdoh fun by making bug fossils!

Julian's love for bugs has helped me be less scared of them.
I'm not sure what happened I would catch bugs as a kid.
Now I am absolutely terrified of some of them.
Especially ROACHES!

We re-used a lot of the same loose parts from our other activities.
Remember sensory play does not have to be this big elaborate set up!
Sometimes less is more.
Keep it simply and have fun! ♥️

Forgot to mention we are also mastering stacking, the playdoh containers are perfect for that.
You can also practice opening and closing the lids.
You can even hide bugs inside!!

🦋 Bug Sensory Play 🦋

There are so many different activities you could do with this sensory set up.

• Match bugs with cards
• Bury and Dig up bugs
• Use scoop and transfer beans and Oats in containers
• Name bugs as you find them
• Count bugs, apples or pumpkins

We are still focusing on fine motor so I had Julian push the bugs and stick into the plastic.
We talked about the different textures and objects in the bin.
I notice when I set up activities with play dough or kinetic sand, Julian is not as interested. He is hyper sensitive to touch so decided to keep the sand separate.

He loved exploring all the bugs and textures.
When I notice Julian losing interest I grab a book.
Most of the time he is more interested in books than any sensory play. ♥️

This past week was full of anxiety for me. Julian had his first in office visit since Covid.
Being a NICU parent and suffering from PTSD has made this time extremely stressful.

Receiving the good news we prayed for made me feel so grateful.

Grateful for my family.
Grateful for this amazing man I call my husband.
I've said it countless time before but I would not be able to do without him.
He keeps me grounded and always puts things into perspective for me.
His love for our son is admirable.
He is the only person who can make Julian smile that big.
You two are my heart & soul.
I love you. ♥️

🍎Build an Apple Sensory Tray🍎

This week we focused on the word apple. I seen this set up on @sibster page and it inspired me to recreate it.
It is such a creative way to learn the anatomy of an apple.

Combining speech with sensory play can help stimulate language.
We work with a Speech therapist a couple times a month to help with Julian's speech delay.
I've seen a huge burst of language these past 2 weeks.
He is learning he has a voice and wants to be heard. ♥️

My favorite thing to see Julian do over any sensory bin, wooden toy or activity, is explore nature. I love seeing his face light up when he see's a big open field.

Mastering walking did not come easy for Julian. We worked hard everyday at home and with his amazing physical therapist (virtually). Countless leg stretches, leg strengthen excercises and lots of time outside.
Julian continues to get stronger everyday. He has come so far this past year and makes me so proud.

Your future is bright my sweet boy. ♥️

▪︎Pumpkin Patch Sensory Play▪︎

Julian has gained interest in his diggers, so I thought this would be a perfect fall sensory play set up. We collected sticks from our visit at the park added some rocks, faux pumpkins and kinetic sand.
Julian is super sensitive to touch and is not a fan of the kinetic sand. Our goal is to help desensitize him with more exposure.

We are also focusing on fine motor skills, adding an item like a scoop, cup, tweezers etc. Will help strengthen those little muscles in their hand. ♥️

Seen these mini scoopers on @joyofcreativeplay stories and had to run to Hobby Lobby.
