E se sua comunidade pudesse ouvir a Bíblia em sua própria língua? 🌎📖

O Render é um software desenvolvido para apoiar a Tradução Bíblica Oral (TB-O), especialmente em comunidades onde a comunicação oral é a principal forma de aprender e compartilhar informações.

O software é completamente baseado em ícones, funciona em telas sensíveis ao toque (touch screen) e não exige alfabetização para ser utilizado.

Como funciona?

🎧 1. Preparação: Técnicos da Faith Comes By Hearing preparam e importam para o Render as gravações das Escrituras que servirão como referências.

🎙️ 2. Tradução: Tradutores de Língua Materna ouvem a referência e traduzem e gravam oralmente cada versículo ou seção em sua própria língua.

👥 3. Revisão: Outros Tradutores de Língua Materna revisam as gravações, e a comunidade também participa da verificação. A retrotradução — traduzir o trabalho de volta para o português — ajuda a equipe a comparar o significado com o texto bíblico original. Ajustes podem ser feitos em cada etapa.

📖 4. Consultoria: Um Consultor de Tradução certificado pelos padrões da FOBAI verifica a tradução e ajuda a garantir sua precisão e fidelidade ao texto bíblico original.

✅ 5. Distribuição: Depois da aprovação, a gravação está pronta para ser compartilhada com a comunidade!

O Render também funciona como um sistema de gerenciamento de arquivos, permitindo que os áudios sejam enviados e recebidos entre os membros da equipe e facilitando todo o fluxo de trabalho. A internet não é necessária para o trabalho diário de tradução, embora seja recomendado conectar-se ocasionalmente para sincronizar o projeto, criar um backup e permitir que os técnicos tenham acesso aos áudios concluídos.

What organizations do we work with?
In Brasília, we work with:
✨ALEM: (Associação Linguistica Evangélica Missionária) which is part of the Wycliffe Global Alliance and trains Brazilian missionaries through a Bible translation and linguistics training course. @missaoalem
✨Faith Comes By Hearing: an international nonprofit organization that trains mother tongue translators in how to begin oral Bible translation projects worldwide. What are we doing for work exactly?
As we are based in Brasília, but work internationally at times, we have three main aspects of our goals summarized as:

1) Support and train Brazilians in oral and written translation principles, specific to Bible translation
2) Support and train Brazilians in environmental conservation (“creation” care) principles, focusing in reforestation
3) Train mother tongue translators in how to begin oral Bible translation projects worldwide

🇧🇷🧐O que estamos fazendo exatamente no trabalho?
Como estamos baseados em Brasília, mas às vezes trabalhamos internacionalmente, temos três aspectos principais de nossos objetivos resumidos como:
1) Apoiar e treinar brasileiros em princípios de tradução oral e escrita, específicos para tradução da Bíblia
2) Apoiar e capacitar os brasileiros nos princípios de conservação ambiental (cuidados de “criação”), com foco no reflorestamento
3) Treinar tradutores de língua materna sobre como iniciar projetos de tradução oral da Bíblia em todo o mundo

I told Tim I was going to make a “day in the life” video while working remotely, and he said, “What, are you just going to take a video of your screen all day?” 😂

Basicallyyyyy… yep lol!

A lot of the work that I’m prepping right now is happening on my computer as we prepare for the next month and a half, where we’ll be staying with a people group in their village to help them launch a Bible translation project.

We’re collaborating with several different translation organizations, influential people in the village, various team members, preparing training materials, working through exegetical and translation preparation, translating everything to Portuguese, and getting everything ready, printed, ordered online and packed up to go support the team.

Preparation days often look like: screens, online meetings, documents, and a world of work behind the scenes to help people have access to God’s word in their language! We do it for love! 🌎

🇧🇷Eu falei para o Tim que ia fazer um vídeo de “um dia na minha vida” enquanto estivesse trabalhando remotamente, e ele respondeu: “Ué, você vai ficar gravando a tela do seu computador o dia inteiro?” 😂

Basicamenteeeee… sim! 😂

Grande parte do trabalho que estou preparando agora acontece no computador, enquanto nos preparamos para o próximo mês e meio, quando vamos ficar na aldeia de um povo para ajudá-los a iniciar um projeto de tradução da Bíblia.

Estamos colaborando com várias organizações de tradução, pessoas influentes na aldeia e diferentes membros da equipe; preparando materiais de treinamento, trabalhando na preparação exegética e de tradução, traduzindo tudo para o português e deixando tudo pronto — impresso, comprado, encomendado online e embalado — para levar e apoiar a equipe.

Os dias de preparação muitas vezes são assim: telas, reuniões online, documentos e um mundo inteiro de trabalho acontecendo nos bastidores para ajudar pessoas a terem acesso à Palavra de Deus em sua própria língua!

Tim just got back from a week at @jocumportovelho training 2 teams on how to use @faithcomesbyhearing2033 @fvpo2033 software for managing the audio files and oral Bible translation workflow. What a joy and blessing to know such encourage brothers and sisters in Christ who are working to help people groups have access to the Bible in their mother tongue! Thank you to all the wonderful friends who shared gifts with us as a family. Until next time!

Are YOU a Third Culture Kid (TCK)? Or do you know one?

What blessings and challenges come with growing up between cultures? What unique strengths do TCKs develop? And what support helps them truly thrive?

These were some of the questions we explored this past January as I partnered with @latinlink to help lead the children’s program at their annual conference. Together with @carolinarout and an incredible team (@gaabss.rodrigues @sarariverorios @tobikugel @sr_kugel , and katherine), we spent the week investing in TCKs through spiritual formation, cross-cultural resilience, and social and emotional development.

It was such a joy to create space where these incredible kids could build friendships, feel understood, and be encouraged to thrive. 💛 As I’m also raising a TCK baby, I loved digging into the nuance of these diverse lives lived out by TCK kiddos!! 🙏

Quais são as bênçãos e os desafios de crescer entre diferentes culturas? Quais pontos fortes os TCKs desenvolvem? E de que apoio eles precisam para realmente florescer? 🌎💛

Essas foram as perguntas que exploramos em janeiro, quando fiz parceria com a Latin Link para ajudar na programação infantil da conferência anual da organização. Junto com a Carol e uma equipe incrível (Gabi, Sarah, Tobias, Samara e Katherine), passamos a semana investindo na vida de TCKs por meio de formação espiritual, resiliência intercultural e desenvolvimento social e emocional.

Foi uma alegria criar um espaço onde essas crianças pudessem construir amizades, sentir-se compreendidas e ser encorajadas a florescer na história única que Deus escreveu para elas. 💛 taken in Perú by @callahanconnection

Throwback to Peru trip, January ‘26

During our time in Peru, we had the opportunity to visit some dear friends who are working alongside communities that grow, harvest, and sell cacao.

While we were in the village, they invited us to eat the sweet pulp surrounding the cacao seed. We spit out the seeds and collected them in the shell of the cacao fruit, where the community would later sell the seeds and ship them off to eventually become chocolate. Wild! 🍫

It was such a joy to learn from our friends and the members of this community and experience a glimpse of the work they’re doing together.

Recordando o Peru | Janeiro de 2026 🇵🇪🍫

Durante nosso tempo no Peru, tivemos a oportunidade de visitar alguns amigos queridos que trabalham em parceria com comunidades que cultivam, colhem e comercializam cacau.

Enquanto estávamos na aldeia, eles nos convidaram para experimentar a polpa doce que envolve a semente do cacau. Depois de comer a polpa, cuspíamos as sementes e as colocávamos de volta na casca do fruto, de onde elas seriam enviadas para, mais tarde, se transformarem em chocolate. Incrível! 🍫

Foi uma alegria aprender com nossos amigos e com as pessoas dessa comunidade, além de conhecer um pouco mais do trabalho que eles estão desenvolvendo juntos. taken in Perú by @callahanconnection

Earlier this year, we traveled back to the village where we’re partnering with a community that has been faithfully translating the Gospel of Mark through an Oral Bible Translation project. @jocumportovelho , @spokenorg & @fvpo2033 are all partnering in supporting this project and we were finally all able to visit together!

One of the highlights of this trip was accompanying Nelson, @nelson.sousajr the translation consultant. His role is to provide the final quality assurance step in the translation process, helping ensure that every meaning and concept intended by the original biblical authors is communicated accurately in the translated passage.

The mother-tongue translators and their community are the experts in making sure the translation draft is natural, and acceptable in their language. Then with the guidance of a back translation (translating the team’s work from their mother tongue language back into Portuguese), Nelson carefully compares the drafted translation with the original biblical text, sending tips back to the team on the accuracy and clarity of the preserved message the original Bible is trying to communication. The role of the consultant on a translation team is a beautiful example of collaboration, with multiple stages of review that strengthen the quality at every step!

While much of this work happens remotely, sometimes we get the joy of meeting together in the village. Those visits are invaluable. Spending time with the team, learning about their daily lives, and experiencing their culture firsthand helps us communicate biblical metaphors and illustrations much more effectively.

Teaching and learning together is a collaborative experience as well.
We learn the best from Jesus as he models how to posture our hearts in this process, “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:29)

I just wrapped up a sweet season of hosting devotional reflections through arts and crafts with some sweet girls who are all Third Culture Kids (TCKs). TCKs grow up between different cultures because of their family’s work or ministry, often feeling at home in more than one culture but not fully belonging to just one. 🌎

With two of these girls moving away next week, we spent our last few weeks focusing on spiritual formation, relationship changes, and emotional and mental health through the lens of growing up in a mixture of cultures.

Chats with these girlies about hopes, dreams, fears, and all the big God questions while doing arts and crafts are truly the best. What a gift it has been to walk alongside these girls in this season. 🫶

🇧🇷 Acabei de encerrar uma fase muito especial conduzindo momentos devocionais por meio de artes e trabalhos manuais com um grupo de meninas muito queridas, todas elas Third Culture Kids (TCKs). As TCKs crescem entre diferentes culturas por causa do trabalho ou ministério de suas famílias, muitas vezes sentindo-se em casa em mais de uma cultura, mas sem pertencer completamente a apenas uma delas. 🌎

Como duas dessas meninas vão se mudar na próxima semana, passamos as últimas semanas focando em formação espiritual, mudanças nos relacionamentos, saúde emocional e saúde mental, tudo pela perspectiva de crescer entre diferentes culturas.

Conversar com essas meninas sobre esperanças, sonhos, medos e todas aquelas grandes perguntas sobre Deus enquanto fazíamos artesanato foi simplesmente uma das melhores partes da minha semana.
