i usually skip right over the long, sappy instagram captions, so i apologize in advance for becoming the person i normally scroll past. but after four years and countless subway breakdowns, i think new york deserves more than a photo dump and a heart emoji. so please indulge me…

i would say my theme song for this chapter has basically been “new york, i love you but you’re bringing me down.” i arrived so excited to buy my first real winter coat as a rite of passage. somewhere around my third winter, i started fantasizing about setting it on fire.

for so much of my time in the city, all i wanted was to get back to being “callie in cali” instead of introducing myself as “callie from cali” in every class icebreaker. i blamed new york for throwing every life lesson imaginable at me all at once.

but now that i’ve had a little distance from the subway rats, i can admit… i kinda miss them (and the Dunkin’ Donuts on every corner.)

more than anything, i miss the people. every person i met along the way made new york what it was for me. you know who you are, and you’re the reason the train delays, 100-degree subway rides, and snowstorms were somehow all worth it.

5 gay st, you’ll always have a piece of my heart.

turns out the real independent activity was the friends we made along the way 🫶

thanks for witnessing every breakthrough… and every breakdown caused by a Taylor Swift imaginary circumstance.

@kckarenchamberlain thank you for every note that frustrated me in the moment and made perfect sense later😉 couldn’t have asked for a better teacher taken in William Esper Studio by @callieokun
